It's a great service. But be aware that you can't turn them inside out and use them for Media Mail or Parcel Post shipping - the USPS is checking for misuse of their boxes. From what I hear, they're now stamping Priority Mail on the inside of the boxes.

The way I look at it, they're nice enough to give me free boxes to ship stuff in, the least I can do is to follow their rules and regulations.

For Media Mail and Parcel Post shipping, I buy boxes in bulk from VeriPack. Last time I ordered, I got 100 small boxes (perfect for small-box computer games) for $28 plus shipping ($10.25 - ouch) - about 38 cents per box. Boxes that fit large-size computer games are only slightly more expensive.

In case anyone wants to know the item numbers for those size boxes:
8.75" x 6.5" x 3.75": 60-080603
12" x 9" x 3": 60-120903

Hope this helps.

I've seen a USPS counter worker totally go off on some lady and refused to take an inside-out Priority Mail box. That was a few years ago. I think they now mark the insides with an inked "For Priority Mail only" or something like that.

I am going to laugh when someone uses one of these boxes for a non-USPS use and goes to jail

You "hot deals" experts are inspiring - I think I'll go to McDonalds and fill my pockets with packs of salt and pepper, then maybe a couple of boxes of little pencils from the golf course, then I'll go to a church and get as many of the offering envelopes as I can carry...wow, I must be a "hot deals" guru too!

I fit my neo4 platinum in retail box in one of those flat rate boxes.

Also, you can use ups or fedex boxes to ship usps - just wrap it in their conveniently free priority mail tape . Note: someone (actually newegg) shipped me something in a fedex box. I wrapped it in priority mail tape and sent it off via usps.

I've seen a FedEx counter worker refuse the box... as (I feel) they should.

What if the box is used? Couldn't you use it for whatever you wanted?...I know I reuse usps boxes all the time...or should I quit that?

As far as I've seen, the only priority boxes that had "PRIORITY MAIL" stamped on the inside were 1096L's (Video tape boxes)

Be sure not to try to use these for another shipping method. They mark the inside of the boxes now and will refuse to accept the packages if they are not shipped Priority. Even if they have been used once already, they are still property of the Postal Service and only good for Priority.

And DON'T order too many, we don't like to lug that crap out to you!

USPS has been giving free shipping supplies for longest time..

you can get almost every 'priority' boxes and tapes.. for free..

i used to order alot, but now i am left with 100s of unused boxes..

oh ye, if you get caught using these boxes for something else, you might get fined..

The unused boxes can be returned to your local post office. They will just add them to their current stock that they give away.

Free boxes are great if you ship Priority alot, ebay and the like.

We always need a doomsayer around to make things "Extreme". I believe that misuse of these boxes would fall under embezzlement and would be very hard to prove. A person would just have to say that they intended to use the boxes for shipping, they just haven't done it yet. The hardest punishment I would imagine is being forced to pay for the boxes.

I dont know why anyone would want to use USPS boxes for Fedex/UPS, or UPS boxes for USPS/Fedex, or Fedex boxes for USPS/UPS... they ALL give away free boxes. Granted the ground services dont, but in that case, just USE usps, they have free pickups and they are really cheap for stuff under 5 pounds.

Just my 2 cents

I ordered these a while ago and I have no clue why. Now I don't know what to do with them. I will be taking them back to the post office.

Actually, each ones free boxes are different sizes. For example, the USPS box I had was too big, my normal box was too little, but the fedex box fit just right.
