Carbonated carpet cleaners is not a new thing. If you've ever had your carpet cleaned by a Chem Dry franchise, you've had carbonated cleaning. It does work quite well. The carbonation causes the stain to move to the top of the carpet and make an easy removal. Chem Dry used to sell its carbonated spotter (called the Stain Extinguisher) at like Home Depot and other places, but realized they could sell them for about 5X more through its franchises. The new trend in cleaners is oxygen (ala oxy-clean), peroxide, citrus, and vapor steam (not steam cleaning). Like most spotters, it may work really good on spot, but no so well on another, so don't give up on a spotter if it does not work. And besides, it's free

BTW: Yeah, I'm a carpet cleaner and I read alot of trade mags.

no offence at all .. but that is seriously one of the worst web pages for a professional business I have ever seen (i.e. the logo in the upper lefthand corner). Again, I am not trashing anything ... I just feel if they had a better web site ... they would look more professional and reach out to a larger crowd.

Just my .02

Ha! Your commentary on their crappy site actually encouraged me to check it out. So maybe they have some reverse psychology behind it.

But, yeah, it looks like a 1996 online math course home page or something...

Thanks. Don't forget window washing fluid if you're in a real pinch with a stain and nothing else is on hand. Works great on some stuff...

edit: To be clear, I mean a product like Windex.

Woah!
Make that CLEAR Windex. That blue in it can stain the carpet worse than what's already in there. Please everyone, when you shop for Windex buy CLEAR. I actually called them once (that phone number on the label) about getting it out of carpet and they basically said I was SOL.

dragonlord2112,

Any advice for getting out the hair color that my wife spilled on the carpet last month? Also, what would you recommend as a good general carpet cleaner readily available in the stores?

Thanks!

The problem with hair color is it's a dye. In most cases, the color of the fiber has been permanently changed. Most likely, you may have to have the area cut out and patched or spot-dyed. Spot-dyeing is tricky and may not produce a good match. Cutting out requires taking a piece of carpet from a leftover piece or from a closet and glueing it in place.
A general cleaner? Many of my customers like Oxy-Clean (you gotta rinse it!) and I like a diluted spotter of Simple Green. The free spotter here sounds good to me too. One of the best is Chem-dry's Stain Extinguisher for general spotting. The makers of my cleaner do sell a spotter but I'm not sure where to get it: Procyon Plus And that's a fantastic product Of course I could arrange a way to get it to you...lol.
