OP, you should mention that you buy 1lb of coffee for $10 and recieve a "free" coffee maker. Also, it signs you up for automatic shipments, although you can cancel.

Try two 1/2 pound packages of our exceptional coffee for only $10.00, including shipping and handling, and receive a 12 Cup Programmable Stainless Steel Coffeemaker as a special gift. As a member of Gevalia Kaffe, you will automatically receive special Program Benefits.

How the Program Works

You will be sent two 1/2 lb. packages of the type(s) you have indicated below with the understanding that you will continue to receive additional shipments of Gevalia coffee (four 1/2 lb. packages) approximately every six weeks, plus you may receive a special annual shipment.

Prices of coffees and teas vary, ranging from $5.55 - $7.45 per package, plus shipping and handling. Prices are subject to change.

This arrangement may be canceled at any time after receiving your introductory shipment without obligation to accept further shipments. You may change the quantities and types of coffee you receive at any time, as well as the frequency of your shipments. The special gift is yours to keep regardless of your decision.

FYI - I got this deal awhile ago. The coffee maker was nice while it worked but it died (bad heating element) after ~8 months use. Never pursued warranty service so oh well.

I got this last year, my coffee maker is still working quite well.

Too bad the coffee was, IMHO, just horrible. They kept sending me different kinds for free hoping I would like one and keep my subscription, but I just didn't like them.

Heads up, I got the coffee maker version previous to this, (no stainless steel look), and the plastic used smelled so bad, that it transfered to the coffee. I went to their forum and other people were complaining of the same problem. You might check the forum, and see if people are still having the "bad smell\bad taste problem" lately.

Well, I did it.
Thanks necafine, I'll be sure to watch out for those $30 shipments of two whole pounds!

Just flush the coffee maker out with a vinegar-water solution several times before using it.

Would you be able to just make 2 cups of coffee at one time? I'm alone and I don't need 12 cups of coffee, even for a few days. So can you make as many cups as you want at one time, or do you have to make the whole 12 each time you brew???

Thanks in advance

I imagine you just put in enough water/coffee for as much as you want to make. You're not required to make the full 12 cups every time.

Shouldn't be a problem, that's what we do every morning with our 12 cup Mr Coffee. I find that a typical coffee mug is about 2 "cups" on the pot markings, and just use one scoop of grounds for every mug I make.

I thought *large* (like 10-12 cup) drip makers could not make less than 4 cups unless they had the special setting to do so.
Has something to do with the hot water not being in contact with the grounds long enough for full flavor extraction.

Like SRGilbert, I find that up to the 4 cup line (inside the fill lid) is the equivalent of two cups in the real world of coffee drinkers.
Personally, I routinely use 6 cups to the fill-line unless I have someone to share it with. Gives me about three good cups in the AM.

Yup. The 6-cup line's about perfect...of course, I use as much coffee for those 6 cups as most people do for a full pot.

I use a clear glass cup and if you can see sunlight through the coffee, it's a little weak.
My mother-in-law, however, believes that it should be strong enough to dissolve stainless steel and etch glass.

Yeah, I'd definitely cancel before they ship out your next batch- I forgot to, and it's *$37* for 2 lbs of coffee. I canceled the next day, that's ridiculous for 2 pounds of mediocre coffee. The coffee maker definitely feels cheap, too, plastic and all.

A good deal if you're looking for a coffee maker, though, that's why I ordered last year.

Thanks for the link.

I just ordered using a virtual CC from MBNA. I only put a $10 limit on the card.

I'll cancel before the next shipment. But if they try to ship before I can, they won't be able to bill my card.

No, I'm talking about the plastic out-gassing, a different problem.

Yes, never hurts to flush out a coffeemaker, but this was from using the wrong kind of plastic for a comsumer appliance.

Nice deal if you recieve a good CM. Chances are these are improved and would be ok.
