I have a friend that's done this deal before, he says it's a good coffee maker. It uses triangular filters rather than the bowl shaped ones, though.

Anyways, I just made an order. Thanks OP.

My family did this and got our coffee maker, and we're keeping the service. The coffee is expensive but it's good.

I have done this twice.
I got the last version two years ago. No problem with plastic issues stated above. The old one is still working fine and is now relegated to camping gear.
The new one is great with the clock, timer and auto shut off.
I would suggest an email as soon as you recieve your original order so you have a verified cancellation. They tend to misplace the cancellations and send/bill after a phone call. If you don't get it cancelled/verified , prepare for a fight with them to get out of second order and cancel.

Has anyone ever heard of the bodum French press Brewing method? I picked one up real cheap at Ross althouth they're also sold at Target only they cost a little more there.

I get my coffee from a local roaster in Tempe, AZ by the name of
Cafe Cortez Coffee Roasters
1848 E University Dr
Tempe, AZ 85281 - 4255
(480) 968-8333
They're very friendly and sell some excellent fresh roasted coffee for < $10 a lb., mostly $7.50 a lb. and all you need to do is phone your order in and the next day you can pick it up fresh as can be. They also ship.

I only buy whole bean and grind my own with a Solis Maestro Classic Conical Bur Grinder I got at Costco online. They don't seem to carry it anymore but it can be had elsewhere.
Some peeps may want to get into buying green unroasted beans, but that's beyond what I would recommend here, especially if you have a great roaster local to you.
I must say, my friends and I love this coffee. Buy only the smallest amount and whole bean and see what coffee can taste like.

This is not meant to crap on this post. That said;
One of the most successful Mocha-Javas in the cupping, this one opens with a shiver of rank Red Sea wildness, which almost immediately gives way to a swelling, lyrical fruitiness that persists sweetly and richly through the high-toned finish. A hint of the rankness resurfaces in the aftertaste. The pleasure here is almost entirely in the complex top of the profile; the bottom is a bit weak and underpowered.
Lifted from the coffeereview dot com site.
It must be in reference to commercial-sized quantities as this is a crock!
(Actually, I personally think the reviewer, "hit it squarely", he said, tongue-in-cheek.)

Maybe those things improved. I did this around 5-6 years ago and the coffeemaker I got was built well, but the coffee it made was absolutely terrible. I experimented with different combinations of water and coffee and could never get it to make a decent cup (I LOVE coffee).
But it is unlikely that the coffeemaker is the same one after this many years. I also wasn't crazy about the Gevalia coffee either so I cancelled.

I'm a recent re-up for this deal, and also now a recent "close my account" customer as well. They were very nice on the phone, but the coffee pots are worse then crap. First one leaked all over my counter and behind my stove because it didn't (couldn't) close completely, and the second one was almost as bad. BOTH had the icky plastic outgassing problem, and BOTH brewed a mediocre cup o' joe regardless of what coffee you put in it.

I joined in 1998 and the coffee pot I received looked exactly like a Braun at the time. It worked great for for 4 years and I joined again in 2002 and got another pot that looked like a Braun. Still using the second one today and it works great. Coffee was mediocre to me so I cancelled a few months later each time.

Gevalia is good coffee (rivals all store brands and most coffee houses), but this is the equivalent of a "free magazine issue."

I got an offer from them for a free coffeemaker, 2 stainless mugs, a jar that holds 12oz coffee, a scoop, and several other acc. all for purchasing a pound. Problem is, came out to over $40 with shipping...

Mine came last night. Currently on second pot.
Kenya regular - which I tried last night - was not as good as the Columbian - which is on my desk right now. The Columbian is very good coffee, BTW.
However, I'm a Folgers Fan and the price difference is simply not worth it.
My palate is not discerning enough to justify a $10/lb. difference.

I got mine yesterday. The silver finish is stainless steel. It was advertised as a stainless steel coffee maker, just the facade is stainless steel, the rest is mostly plastic. Not surprisingly the pot is made of glass.
