Here is a deal for a free laptop, just as long as you sign up for this cred card and transfer $5000 into it, and hold $3000 in the balance for a year, at 10.99% or so.

go to http://www.4mylaptop.com for details, and call 1-888-826-5022

You can see the HP press release here:
http://www.hp.com/hpinfo/newsroom/press/2003/030519h.html

This is especially a good deal if you carry a balance.
This is my first post, so go easy on the flaming.

this is rip off..
the interest alone for $3K for a year already cost more than the laptop

11% on 3K = $330 n'est pas? How much is the compaq worth?

If u're gonna carry a balance anyway, might as well get a new laptop.

Don't forget that the interest would compound. This is a deal to sucker people in with a freebie and then just take them to town basically. And if you go under there required balance, there's probably some nasty penalty or they might try to take back the laptop and so on.

This is weak.

How is it weak if you are already carrying a balance and paying interest. I am paying 9.99% interest on $4500 as it is now. For a couple of dollars a more per month I get a new laptop.

You have to have a unique invitation number to use this deal. It is not open to the general public

1) Not true about using unique ID. You can call the number. I did, and hopefully will be seeing my laptop in a few weeks. I did not have an invitiation. If you scour their website, they say:

I can't find my Invitation Number. Can I still accept online?
If you can't find your Invitation Number, simply call us at 1-888-826-5022, Monday through Friday 8 am to 5 pm EST. We can give you your Invitation Number or process your acceptance over the phone.

2) Street price for this computer is $800. (Just checked ebay.) If you take the $3000 that you borrow from this ccard company and stick it in the bank for 3%, you will be essentially paying 8% on 3K for a year, which is about $240, paid out in a year's time.

In other words, take your 3K from the ccard company, put it in the bank, and add your $800 to it from selling the laptop on eBay. Every month, get about $9.00 in interest from the bank, and pay out about $33 to the ccard company, making a net of $24 payout per month. At the end of the year, pay the remaining balance of 3k. You should have about $500 left in your account (making this a good deal by anyone's standards).

1. Thats if you LOST the number. I don't think you can get a new one, but I'll give it a shot as well. The bank doesn't seem to have an online presence which really disturbs me, but if they can have VISA cards they should be okay, I think. I don't even think they are FDIC insured, but you should ask.

2. thats simple interest. I think this is compound interest, which is a little harder to calculate. I forgot how.

But if you do indeed have gobs of debt, I'd say give it a shot...

I've told some friends about this great offer and they are interested in applying for the card. Can they do that?

Unfortunately, no. This is such an exclusive offer that you must be invited to accept.

You Must be invited

Read it carefully, thay are comparing the cost of the notebook minus the interested you'll pay during the first year ($500) versus other cards that offer you a 6 or 12 months no interest deal. Their point is that with a free notebook you will come up about $499 ahead assuming the value of the notebook is $999.00

I understand the deal just fine. Perhaps I should rephrase this. It is weak for someone who hates carrying a balance and pays of their card every month. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. I'm sure there is a catch somewhere.

Of all the people here, I figured you'd have no outstanding balance on your CCs...
