I wanna know what happened to Amtrak. They don't go to Vegas without a lengthy bus trip mixed in..

Amtrak = Trains = rr tracks = going thru mountains is expensive = only a few routes = no vegas = cheaper to fly.

Man I remember taking the greyhound to LV when I was about your age.... went with a friend. Good thing we bought round trip tickets because we both came back totally broke... I barely scraped together enough pocket change to buy a McDonalds cheeseburger in Barstow... whew, what a depressing trip that was!

Las Vegas is a great place to vacation. I highly recommend it. Hotel rates are currently at decent levels. Check it out soon. You won't regret it.

I don't know how much things have changed since, but I went there in August, 1993. We stayed at the now non-existant Sands across from the MGM Grand. We wanted to take in a show in the evening about a mile down the road so we allowed 20 minutes to *drive*. We didn't make it. So much traffic! And it was practically impossible to make a left or right turn because of the heavy pedestrian traffic. My recommendation would be to walk or take a bus/shuttle and allow *plenty* of time. Besides that we had a great trip!

Traffic flows somewhat better now thanks to the pedestrian bridges they built over the Strip at the major intersections

Plus now they have free monorail systems that run up and down the strip behind the hotels.

One connects the Excaliber/Luxor/Mandalay Bay. (West side of strip - south end)

Another goes from MGM (East side of strip - south end - diaganol from Excaliber) down a few.

The big monorail down to Sahara is being built, estimated completion in '04.

On a completely unrelated note, has anyone here under 21 ever attempted to check into a Vegas hotel? My fiance and I are 20 and 19. We don't plan on gambling, just need lodging. I've checked into hotels via priceline before, which also specifies that you be over 21, without incident. Considering the different nature of a hotel / casino though, I'm curious if I'll have more problems here.

You're too young to be getting married. Unless you're from West Virginia, of course.

Bwahahahahah

Here's a bonus for you easterners coming to Vegas: Fry's!!!! They opened a Fry's the weekend before I went out last time. (Missed the big opening day sale though. Sigh.)

The website link that started this thread states that the Boardwalk Buffet had suck food. I can attest that it does not. I liked it. Also, the Rio's buffet may be uber expensive but worth every penny.

5 Min from Airport exit. Make it your first stop when arriving and last when leaving.
Grab the sports page from the local paper; ad is on last page.
