Here's the deal. Take a survey at Yourcreditcounts.com and then it links you to Equifax's website where you get a free personal credit report. Pretty nifty.

Here's the link: Survey Here

Now if we could only come up with a deal that pay's off my credit card due to all these hot deals. That would be a HOT DEAL!

Only problem with "Surveys" for getting free stuff is you usually get spammed to death afterwards. They don't tell you that the "Trusted Companies" they share their info with is about 10000 spammers.

doesnt getting your credit report effect the credit rating? when looking for a home loan they said that each time they check your credit it goes down a little.

Yes, your beacon score goes down a bit every time your credit report is checked. This is not really an issue for the average joe though.

No it does not. There are different types of inquiries. Inquiries such as those made for advertising reasons (you've been pre-approved..., etc.) and those you make yourself ARE NOT counted in your FICO score.

http://www.myfico.com/myFICO/CreditCentral/ScoringWorks/FICOIgnores.asp

What's Not in Your Score
Certain types of inquiries (requests for your credit report).
The score does not count "consumer-initiated" inquiries - requests you have made for your credit report, in order to check it. It also does not count "promotional inquiries" - requests made by lenders in order to make you a "pre-approved" credit offer - or "administrative inquiries" - requests made by lenders to review your account with them. Requests that are marked as coming from employers are not counted either.

Actually Equifax says that on their site. They also say that inquiring into your credit once doesn't affect it. You're going to get spam anyways. Anytime you sign up for ANYTHING you get spam. If you're worried about it use a fake address. They don't use the email address for anything related to logging into the system. I personally like god@heaven.org.

Stop using my e-mail address as the fake one! No wonder I keep getting spammed!

Man, I wish I had the source code for the FICO algorithm so I could tweak my score.

Equifax offers an option called "Score Power" that will analyze your credit history and suggest ways to possibly improve it. Realize equifax doesn't determine your FICO score though (FairIsaac does that), so it only estimates the changes with a range.

I thought you had to get reports from all 3 credit companies to get an estimate of your credit history? Who knows if the company you deal with will check equifax?

In a way you're right, it's best to check all 3 at least once in a while. If for no other reason than to check for errors. I think all of them have combined reports as an option. I know equifax does.

On a related note, I have always wondered how companies like FreeCreditReport.com make money ? Is the spam money they get enough to keep them in business ?

Is there any other catch is getting a free credit report from them ? If anyone knows please share.

Thanks OP, that was a very thorough report and it was free!
and unlike Transunion you don't have to enter a credit card number,
I have a question, for one of my credit cards, it shows current status - dispute resolution pending.

What does this mean? I closed that account it was a card that I never used, and it shows balance zero, never late, so whats this dispute resolution pending?

who do I call to ask about this - the card company or Equifax?

Thanks

The law says they have 30 days to respond to a dispute. If it has been more than 30 days, call Equifax and tell them that, the entire trade line should be removed from your credit report. If its been less than 30 days, the creditor is likely researching the account, and the trade line will probably be marked "Account closed at consumer request"

That requires entering a credit card number!
They're counting on you to forget to cancel.

Doesn't seem easier, or safer to me.
