Agreed, but this isn't to determine your credit score. It's to check your report in general for signs of identity theft.

Just tried my own from Equifax; works OK. Amazing the details they have. Just got credit score when applied for another mortgage. 780. Pretty good for an ex-drunk.

Supposedly, it will affect the score if you check it too often.

Edit: Some older threads have said something like the following:

everytime you apply for credit your score will go down aprox 10 points

Checking your OWN Score WILL NOT make it go Down.

Applying For NEW Credit where in the creditor checks your credit score MAY make it go down a point or 2 Not 10

Its worth doing, I did all three at once and compared and some bits are different, and the only serious item only appeared on one report. My guess is that next year I will start spacing them out.

Score means something to people in the industry and nothing to me, so I am not paying for it, or worried about it.

BTW I know I have missed at least a few credit card payments, ie letter falls through crack in the car seat on the way to post office and I find it a month or two later, but I was solid green. Anybody get a bad mark from a credit card?

I've been told your credit score only goes down by a few points temporarily when it's checked but after a certain amount of time it goes back up like it was. If someone knows exactly how it works please tell.

Maybe this might help.

thx - after looking at the info that they request SSN#, DOB etc - is there verification that this URL ( http://www.annualcreditreport.com ) is legit.

Of course the three credit reporting companies, have our info - but who is annualcreditreport.com - do they not store the very info that we are trying so hard to protect ?

thank
