google search for catnip, you can use it for the cuecat. There should also be plenty of information on the site you find.

ok, that still doesn't work...i can't get the damn cue cat light to stay on...it just flickers

The flickering is a power-saving 'feature' of the CueCat. It's designed to go into sleep (flickering) mode when it is not being used. It has a motion detector that is supposed to notice when you are trying to use it and bring it out of sleep mode, but in my experience that sometimes takes a little patience and a lot of motion.

Still can't really complain as they are free. CatNip works great for me when the CueCat comes out of sleep mode.

With regard to waking up the cue cat from power saver mode, I don't think that motion has anything to do with it. The cue cat needs to see the reflection of the flashing light. Mine always comes on within a second or two when I point it at a white sheet of paper.

You're right, I forgot. It is by reflection. That's what I get for posting before my first cup of coffee.

Still haven't gotten anything from IEN, been waiting for 2 months. Maybe I'll try IBM again...

I "fixed" my RADIO SHACK PS/2 Cue:C@t so it can sing 'Hi-C', and it lights up, but that's all. For some reason I cannot get it to activate with "CatNip" (running WINDOWS XP Pro), so I'm not sure I performed the surgery correctly.

I've tried to load the original software that came with it to see if it would work with it, but I'm also been unable to get thru to D:C's site to get an activiation code for over a week now. Did they join the "Dot.Gone"s ???

It seems from some of the earlier threads that I'm not the only one running into this problem. Does anyone have any suggestions, or an activiation code?

Ok, I see all the Practical uses you've all listed so far... But is this thing limited to CD's, DVD's and Groceries? I ask because I work for a Large computer company and I would love to be able to check PC's into and out of stock with a barcode reader such as this. For instance, we use alot of Dell Computers and they are Primarily Laptops. Each Dell has a Barcode on it; Could I just swipe the UPC and associate it to a Data base? Even if I had to key in the Data the first time it would save me ton's of work in the long Haul.

What's your thought's on this?

I am starting to suspect so. I've been unable to to get the activation coda also, and now even D:C home page is gone as is one of the links in the first message of this thread (geteic.com ??). The IBM link is still working.

I tried calling D:C's Dallas office to see if I could get an activation code from them by phone, as their web site is "down".

So are their phones!!!

I got a recording from the phone company saying that "... the number you have called cannot be completed at this time." Looks like they DID join the 'Dot Gone's'.

If so, then there's no one one the other end to receive their "SpyWare" of your bar code scans if you did use their software and but did not 'fix' the cat.

Anybody got an original activation code for their software???

I just want to make it so that when I plug my cuecat into the usb port, that a switch that i installed can turn on and off the led scanner light. I'm sure some of you have done this or have lins to how to do it. Thx for any help =D
