Any cheap scales to buy online or at a local retailer? I might look at a thrift store, but what are the odds of finding a kitchen scale?

I still like USPS, unbelievably fast delivery times. it you have a small but heavy package, stick it in their "flat rate" envelope and its only $3.85 for priority anywhere (no zones to worry about)

I still like USPS, unbelievably fast delivery times.
I've had Priority packages make it to California and even Seattle in 2 days from Chicago. That's fast without having to spend the big bucks for 2 day air or even 3 day select with UPS. I also like the fact that USPS delivers on Saturday, which is a big plus over the other carriers.

I use priority mail for items 3lbs or below and not worth more than $50. Any more then this service is a rip unless you are looking for faster service, see way below this post. The deliivery confimation is a joke, i've had a few times where they didn't even scan the items when it was delivered. No tracking what so ever on that option either. For the other items I use ups-ground and they always seem cheaper than fedex-ground. I have noticed fedex is cheaper on there faster delivery options but 99% of the time I only use ground service. Now yes you can get free priority mail boxxes. These are meant for priority mail ONLY! However, I have noticed i've got a few items from people who seem to turn the box inside out and use for ups or fedex. Yes they are small also, but if your creative, you can join multiple boxxes together. As for usps transit times, well they are really good expecially considering saturdays is included as a delivery date. I have yet to send a package out via ups or fedex ground and have it arrive faster than a priority mail package. Priority mail has never takin more than 3 days to get somewhere in the usa and they even ship on saturdays! So to compete with usps transit times, you'll have to choose ups/fedex 2 or 3 day service. However usps may still get there faster if its at the end of the week since they ship on saturdays with no extra fees.

No insurance on that package? It's always a PITA to deal with insurance claims @ the Post Orfice but thats better than not having a proc in your in socket...

Pretty screwed up considering UPS OWNS Mailbox Etc!!
Thumbs down to UPS.

WARNING: Most MBE will either:

1) NOT allow you to drop off "MyUPS.COM Internet Shipping" pakages
2) Charge you a hefty "convience fee" for you to leave them with them, even though they do nothing more than hand them to the driver.

Did you know you can order free boxes (many sizes), labels, envelopes, tape, stickers, and other supplies from USPS.com?

http://supplies.usps.gov/

Catch is that they are either Express or Priority Mail. They technically belong to the USPS, so you can only use them for that purpose. You can't package something in a Priority box and send it via normal mail.

Great for people who ship lots of stuff (eBayers, FS/FT junkies, etc)

Here is the link to create a label WITHOUT the weight being needed. It is the old label, which they still use for Mac users. LINK
I use it for ebay, and no scale is needed.

One place where the USPS will beat out UPS, FEDEX, or anyone else, is shipping overseas, especially to APO/FPO (military) addresses, where everyone else considers it to be "overseas", and charges outrageously higher rates!

I lived & worked on Guam (part of the USA for over 100 years now) for 7 years. I wanted to ship a 40 pound box to myself one time, from California. USPS Priority Mail cost me $44 + insurance. UPS wanted $175!! I think it just stinks that they rip off their customers that way, even tho you're shipping to part of the United States, just because they have to fly the package over the ocean (same as the post office does).

Just my 2-cents worth, but my buddy who's stationed in South Korea this Christmas will be getting a Priority Mail package.
