It's funny, if you go to dishnetworks they have a deal where you get $199 off a system and a $199 free install. Seems like satellitetech.com is making out pretty good, unless I'm missing something...

The 501 is the PVR receiver. It has a hard drive and can record up to 35 hours of programming. Since the satellite signal is already MPEG encoded, the recordings look identical to live, and if there is Dolby Digital in the signal (HBO, Showtime, Starz and some PPV), then it will be recorded also (the 501 has an optical digital audio output). Like all PVRs, it has Pause, but unlike some, it can record the pause buffer, so you can save a program (or even just a funny commercial) to show friends or watch again.

It has an EPG with 8.5 days of listings, and sometime this month, all 501s will get a free automatic firmware upgrade that will add an EPG Search and Caller ID support.

Sounds pretty cool for the PVR unit, but I would like to know, what should I do if I want HDTV programming as well, and how much do you guys think monthly service will be for that?

I can't say how much I LOVE our 501. (sometimes the hard drive is a little loud though) How do you know about the search function coming out? I'm not sure what caller ID support means.
