Hmmm, I haven't seen this one before. It sounds good right up until it mentioned that you had to use a credit card to register. For some this is not a problem but I do not personally trust sites like this. I am not trying to cr@p in this thread but just thought I would mention the need for a credit card.

I don't feel safe knowing that a supposed free service has my CC number. Doesn't make any sense.

This site provided you with a free domain name for now and if they recieve more people for the same service. they will start charging the users. check under the fee section for more info. Your credit crad info is for that purpose.:Q

Isn't that for server space only? Not free names?

Domainzero used to be the best, it was more reliable than namezero, and it was free, no ads.

I'm so sorry. I didn't check it yet. So I didn't know about the Credit Card stuffs.
Domainzero is great, but it no longer free. I had one free domain from it. But I don't know how to find a free host for it. So I just leave it there.

Its probably just security so one person doesn't register 100 urls (like you could this summer when there was no cc requirement). Still wouldn't trust it with anything either then a one-use credit card number ...

"If this is a free service, why does NameDemo.com need my credit card number?
NameDemo.com is an absolutely free service. There are no hidden fees associated with registering a domain name through NameDemo.com. Your use of a domain name in the .com, .net or .org domains is completely free for one year. The credit card information is used solely to validate your user information.

Please note: During the sign up process, NameDemo.com does not ask for the expiration date of your credit card. Without the expiration date information, we cannot charge your credit card."

I won't do it beacause it's only free for one year, and it's not 'full-featured.'

Here, this is what I use for free domaines. BTW, it is a domain RE DIRECTOR and will put bannners on your homepage. But there is a piece of code for no banners

&quot;DESCRIPTION&quot;><meta http-equiv=&quot;refresh&quot; content=&quot;0;
url=&quot;url&quot;><noscript>

Place this in the description box for homepage.

Duh.... heres the site Site

pa I got busted for using multiple domains (1 per cust)

Does anyone know any more about namezero.com (edit: or doteasy.com)? I am thinking of registering at registerclub.com for $10, but then I am trying to find out about hosting options. Free is better of course. I'm not worried about the size limitation they offer so much, but I am worried about the bandwidth limitations (site traffic) that I've seen on some sites. I've been all over namezero and they don't describe too much. I'm curious about your experiences.

I would appreciate your input.

Here is a list of sites I've complied / checked out so far.
directnic.com
dns2go.com
domainmonger.com
doteasy.com
ehost.domainzero.com
freeservers.com
namedemo.com
netfirms.com
webjump.com

OK, this is how it goes:

1. domainzero.com
PRO: FREE, YOU own it (registered to you), NO BANNER, CC# not needed.
CON: No longer exists! Does not hid true URL, no hosting, only domain.

2. namezero.com
PRO: FREE, Hides URL, CC# not needed.
CON: Takes 60 days to activate (at least), THEY own it (they can take it away once it gets popular), 1/3 PAGE BANNER, (AND!!! If you try to take away the banner they will CANCEL your account unless you pay them $25 to continue using the domain... They still own it... i've already lost 2 dotcoms that way.), no hosting, only domain.

1. namedemo.com
PRO: FREE
CON: Not sure who owns it, not sure about banners, and CC$ REQUIRED!!! (no deal)

3. $10-$15
PRO: YOU own it (registered to you), NO BANNER
CON: Cost, no hosting, only domain.

4. >$15
PRO: Better service, most have host and webspace, good tech support
CON: Cost $$$.

Sorry this is not more indepth... but my recomendation is to just pay the $10... unless it a relatively unimportant domain... u don't want to risk having namezero.com buy it.

I use namezero.com and namedemo.com. I'm pretty happy with both services. And no namezero doesn't take like 60 days to register. It took me about 1 business week to have mine's registered and up and running.

Forgive me for any misunderstandings...

The NameZero service I was referring to is the &quot;Personal&quot; plan, which is free and not to be mistaken with the &quot;PersonalPlus&quot; which requires a fee. The &quot;Personal&quot; account requires 60 days of registration and has just recently been DISCONTINUED. While NameZero's &quot;PersonalPlus&quot; will take (as mentioned in above post) about 1 business week, I still would not recommend it because it still require you to place a banner at the bottom of your website.

I have registered a domain with namedemo before and it works. They don't try to rip you off and the credit card is just so you don't try to pull anything, like a banner removal code. The thing is, namedemo says its catch in its name. Its just a demo of the domain since the only give it to you for one year.

What the heck? I went back to the namezero.com website and I don't see ANY mention of the Free service any more. All I see is this PLUS garbage they trying to sell us. Does this mean I'm going to get charged? or will get charged after my free service runs out since I'm some charter member or something?

Seizure: NameZero has just recently redesigned their webpage... and their business plans, apparently. That change probably occured around the time that your multiple accounts were shut down and when my no-banner domains were killed too. By reading the press releases, the general ideas seem to be that all free accounts will be allowed to run their term (not sure how much time ya got buddy) and then required to pay the $25.00 to keep the domain name...

That's pretty stupid. Oh well, guess it's time to look somewhere else that's free or atleast low cost. Mhm, for no banner ads, I suggest a NO FRAMES script. You can get it from my site if you want. Just PM me.

So I guess my post was a little misunderstood.

I am curious about the specifics of the hosting options that namezero or doteasy provide since they aren't listed completely on their website. It sounds like you guys would know about namezero, but maybe not doteasy. I don't mind paying $30 (or $35 for doteasy activation) a year for the plus deal. I'd be looking at the business deal, just in case. Thanks.

Ben: What kind of hosting are you looking for? Do you need CGI/PERL access?

Another site you might try is Hypermart.net. I really recommend this for businesses because they are really easy to set up, use, and offer A LOT of features for business websites (secure shopping, cgi/perl access)

For hypermart there are 2 options:

1. FREE - http://yourdomain.hypermart.net (has ad-banner, 20MB hosting, cgi/perl access)

2. FREE - http://www.yourdomain.com (FREE TRANSFER - but you must buy the domain somewhere else, such as Network solutions, and they will transfer and host it for you, has ad-banner, 20MB hosting, cgi/perl access)

3. PAID - http://www.yourdomain.com (You pay them and they will register for you, has ad-banner, 20MB hosting, cgi/perl access)

Note: The thing i like most about hypermart is that you have a lot of room to expand. If you want no banners? Sure, add a small monthly cost and it is gone. Want more disk space? no problem, just a small monthly fee.

BTW, there are ways to make the hypermart banner disappear without paying them, but as a business website, i would suggest that you not. The small fee really is.. small.
