I haven't seen this posted here so don't spam me if it has... I'm assuming it's a "Hot Deal" 'cause it's free...

I saw a review of internet telephony services at www.cnet.com over the weekend and they recommended trying www.dialpad.com (no, I'm no way connected with them or get any sort of kickback...) You get free computer-to-phone calls FREE anywhere in the US. Granted, it probably helps that I've got DSL, but I was blown away at the quality of the calls. Time to get rid of my business MCI service I used to get my $150 Amazon GC earlier this year...

People have different opinions. I never liked Internal Phone Calling becaused none actually worked for me!

When I was in Bangkok a few years ago, I used net2phone via Internet Phone 5.0 to call the States and it really sucked. Granted, the $.05/minute was cheaper than the $.75/minute using a regular phone but the quality really sucked... I hadn't tried internet phone service since then but am pleased with the quality I get this time around (plus, it's free!)

pc to phone calling through the internet isn't that bad. i've gotten that 'echo' effect with dialpad at times, but i didn't expect it to be crystal clear either. hey, it's free.

also, the sound quality has a lot to do with your internet connection as well as other factors. you can't expect the same results from a dial-up modem connection vs. broadband.

too bad dialpad has so much competition now. i think most chat programs come with the 'internet phone' feature built in now. i thought dialpad was truly revolutionary when it first came out. but now it's just another free phone service.

I personally dislike internet telephony services because of the short lag and echo. However, it's awesome when calling from abroad (It costs an arm and a leg to call the US from Russia...). When calling domestically, I recommend using Onesuite. Calls are only 2.9 cents/minute and your account can be accessed on the internet to add more minutes to your card, view your call history, and more! International rates are better than most providers. I've had no problems using their service and will continue using it until I find a better long distance deal.

Fillster: did I miss something? It appears that Iconnect charges for their PC-to-phone services after the first hour of usage, while Dialpad is completely free within the US. This thread addresses free services.

i've been using dialpad for about two years now...
and i find that you really need a head set to
make the phone calls clean. it really reduces the echo effect.

i highly recommend it.

Dialpad completely locks up my system. I think it's cause I'm using an ISA SB16 on a KT7Raid system. I really enjoyed it too. Pretty good connex, and now that MSN is limiting to 5 min, it's the only way to fly.

cool cool, dialpad is pretty good if you have broadband. I'm in college and I don't use my phone to call long distance anymore.

Dialpad works great for me. Try using something faster than a 14.4 modem

I heard MSN limits to 3 minutes now. Is that true?

They now have "echo supression" which takes care of much of the echo effect. Also, keep your microphone away from your speakers and make sure the mic volume isn't too high. You'll be a happy chatter then

I just found this site the other day kallfree.com

You pay only for your long distance fees to call internationally. Don't know about quality and I never tried it. But for those who want to save it won't hurt.

<EDIT>
Forgot to mentioned that this is limited to certain countries only.
</EDIT>

I use Kallfree and it's great when it works (about 6 out of 10 times). Since Kallfree became popular a few months ago, it's been harder for me to call Moscow... The quality is acceptable to very good. Definately a HOT deal when coupled with Onesuite.
