Sorry to interrupt the general enthusiasm, but I think this is a rather poor book after reading through it briefly. I mean, it's is very well written, has a lot of material, and is an admirable effort that one person could write so much on physics, but what exactly is the aim of this book?
Whether the book is for a non-physics person, intro physics student, or advanced student, the topics are VERY wordy, and go into too much depth without developing the basic concepts properly. It's nice to give parenthetical remarks, examples, history, but it's a little scatterbrained.
maybe if you look at it as a collection of short essays on independent topics, it works. But I cannot see anyone really using this as a reference material.
sorry, just my observations.
