Free DVD of your choice from CompUSA... AOL sign-up required but...

I went to my local CompUSA to get the 120GB hard drive deal and the manager told me about this deal.


If you sign up for AOL with a credit card you get a DVD of your choice for free. Of course you won't be able to get anything like the Sopranos but I picked up Shrek for a Chrstmas gift. I was a little hesitant but the manager told me that I could cancel AOL the very next day without penility, with nothing getting charged to my card.

Yes, CompUSA signs you up on the spot. As soon as I got home I cancelled and the AOL operator assured me that no charges would appear on my credit card

Too bad my CompUSA has a crappy selection of DVDs. The last time I went there they only had 20 in stock. 10 of which were copies of Forrest Gump.

Yes, be sure to call first as I just came back from my local store and they didn't have the deal. The deal they had was buy anything with a serial number and get 3 free months of aol :disgust:

I did not hear anything about this deal prior to going in, I was told about the deal while I was in there.

... and yes there selection sucks but I got Shriek and my buddy got Pearl Harbor. Good Christmas gifts if nothing else. I do not know when it expires or if it is regional but I will check with them tomorrow.

I've got "Chocolat". Asked about promotion in customer service.
They were surprised and even asked how do I find out, but anyway,
I've got this damn good dvd for free + 3 free monthes of AOL.
Offer is limited to $20, if you'll buy more expensive dvd you should pay extra.

Nice find. Once I get home for break, I'll be sure to stop by my local CompUSA and see about this deal. Nothing makes me more happy than getting free stuff, and cancelling accounts with AOL

I hope my store has a good selection... it is one of the largest CompUSA stores I've been in, and I have 2 to choose from

Funny how some people were offered 3 months free AOL.

Why?

You get 1000 Hours free just for doing a "generic" sign-up right... do the math 1000 divided by 24 is about 42 days (nonstop connected to AOL). 1000 divided by 90 is 11 hours a day. Interesting.

I have a feeling that this is commission based sale, i.e. the compusa sales people can get commission by pursuading you to sign up with AOL. One of my friends used to work for AOL on a commission base and for each person sign up with AOL he got $25. Not a bad idea to use a ~$15 DVD as incentive.

Anyways a nice deal for us consumers.

I just tried this here in Seattle, WA. The MGR told me that he had not heard of the deal and i reassured him (over the phone) that one of the other CompUSA stores was doing this. He replied by saying "Ok. I'll give you a DVD if you sign up for AOL". I now have Pearl Harbor for .01$ (yeah, they made me pay a penny, damn!!!!).

DVD's were blown out of my CUSA's last year at the same time OD was blowing them out.....Remember when OD dumped all their DVD's? I started my collection off the 20 or so DVD's I got from there for $3-$6 dolloars each. AHHHHH the good old days.

I did this at Omaha, Ne CompUSA and was offered either a free swiss watch or a DVD so I got Star Wars Episode one, its a two disc set so I had to pay $3.18 with tax but hell I was planning on buying this DVD anyway at full price =) Nice find!
