Remember Netscape used to be like a 3 meg download and IE uhm, 4 I believe it was, was like 6 megs if I remember right Windows 3.11 installed into 11 megs and Windows 95 could be installed with minimal options into around 40 megs, some dude even made a stripped down hacked up version of Win95 that fit on 1 floppy (or was it 2 floppies?).

Software doesn't have to span 2 CD's and take a gig of space just to be useful

321 Studios has opened up their ftp server for anonymous connections and downloads of their entire software line @:

ftp://products.321studios.com

(you won't get serials, but these are easy to find.)

Here's a 'map' of the contents:
6832 - GamesXCopy
6496 - DVD X Copy Platinum
6304 - DVD XCopy Express 3.2.1 Standard
6256 - Other Platinum versions (4.0.3.8 full)
6232 - DVDXShow (v2.2 32.8MB) (viewer 5.24MB)
6208 - CDXRescue
6184 - DVDXRescue 2.0.2 and 2.1.2.16
6160 - DVDXMaker 2.0.1 (80.4MB)
6136 - DVDXPoint 2.1.0 (16.1MB)
6112 - DVDXCopy XPRESS NOCSS 3.0.2 full
6088 - DCP5 Setup?? (DVDs copied to CD)
6064 - DVDXCopy Gold 3.0.4 Full (9.18 MB)
5992 - DVDXCopy XPRESS v3.2.1 full (5.87MB)
5944 - DVDXCopy Full v1.4.1, 1.5.0, 1.5.2
5776 - empty??

Is there a description of what each one of those does?

Amen to that. DVD Shrink and Nero can't be beat. I've burned maybe 50 DVDs so far, and not once has there been an error. Just did "The Missing." 137 minutes. Shrunk it down to just below 4.5GB, and it looks great when played.

IMO, 321 Studio's software is overpriced crap. But I know a lot of people who actually think that if the software isn't boxed, retail and costly, then it's no good. Go figure

Simply put, If you haven't tried DVD Shrink and the Nero combo, you have no idea how easy it is.

They've reopened the ftp site.

Does anyone know the difference between say gold and platinum versions? They looked pretty much the same in CUSA.

An article in either MaximumPC or PC Magazine claimed the Express version was better than the full DVDXCopy version. They claimed Express was easier to use and more feature rich while the non-Express version was buggy.

EDIT:

I still prefer using DVD Shrink (for my 2x media) or DVD Decrypter+InstantCopy (for 1x media)

Disclaimer: some files may have been interrupted during downloading.

Personally, i USE PINNACLE IC and DVD Decrypter and DVDSHRINK as well

Things 321 studios software does behind your back

An electronic watermark that can trace any backup copy made with DVDXCOPY back to the original point of purchase allowing 321 Studios to remotely de-activate the software and prevent further misuse.

Not that Im promoting selling movies or anything, but I dont want my content watermarked.

Can I ask a dumb question? Why is everyone rushing to download this stuff if you still need a key (or whatever) to actually be able to use it? Do you anticipate 321 is going to be giving out installation keys very soon?

If you are not going to be selling the copies why would you care about a watermark.

"Her ruling included an injunction preventing us from continuing to sell the current version of our popular DVDXCOPY software if it included a ripper. This injunction takes effect 7 days from her order."

I just wanted to grab a copy of it before it goes away.

Don't know why anyone would want to use this software anyway.

DVD Shrink is much better, free, and includes a ripper, and will burn using Nero.

Or you could use DVD Decrypter (free) as your ripper and Nero Recode (comes with Nero 6) to transcode.

I wonder if 321 can get around this whole thing by selling to the European and Canadian market.

I tell ya. Between all the censorship going on with the FCC, the banning of computer programs, the Govt. getting into people's personal business. What the heck is going on here????

Because I feel that personal tracking and identification devices are getting out of control. I know its just a dvd, but by people not bitching about those products being put on our dvds, we just allow them to go one step further. Our local transit system can basically track ur movement through countless points in the city now so long as your transit card is in your pocket regardless of if you are riding a train/bus at the time or not.

They're going to remove the ripper part so they can continue to sell this item. It isn't worth the money now and it certainly won't be with the ripper removed.

Yes, tracking is out of hand. This is why cell phones are SO popular and pay phones are being removed. They don't care about you it is just that much easier to track you. Patriot Act, Patriot Act II, DVD XCopy, onstar, GPS, grocery store discount cards, etc, just more tracking .
