Equifax doesn't think anything. They get all their info from your lenders. All they do is collect and compile it, and most of that process is automated.
If something is wrong, you need to dispute it.

I went to the link provided, but I didn't see any option for free credit report. Am I missing something, or am I just dense?

Thanks!

Managed to get everything squared away. Had to chat with them on their live help thing for a little while. Kinda wishing I hadn't looked at the report tho, it's as bad as I thought it would be =) Oh well, so long as I continue to get decent auto loan rates.

Just follow along with what it shows. It'll look like a survey/sweepstakes thing. Once it's all finished (took me about a minute) you'll move onto the equifax site.

you need to have both letters and numbers...
There's a difference between numbers OR letters and numbers AND letters...

Pretty good deal. I had to end up calling for verification but it took no time at all. Crazy thing was a saw a $900 balance on a Sears card that I know I've never had. I looked into it and aparantly it was my mom's card which when I was younger I was an authorized user. I guess we never changed that back and it's been under my credit history ever since. She's always paid her bill on time so I guess it didn't hurt too much. I wonder if I oughta get her to take me off of that thing or just leave it as is...

Got in on this the last time, so definitely got in on it this time. My score has gone up quite a bit since October. Quite nice. Now I just have to get one for my mom. Thanks.

If your accounts have been paid off and the payments were timely, then this has helped your credit scores. Leave the accounts open, closing them actually reduces your credit rating. The biggest factors in credit rating are your history (how much credit you've had access to in the past and how you've made the payments), the amount of debt you have and your income.

We are unable to verify your identity online. For assistance, please call our Customer Care department at 1-877-797-4403. Our Customer Care Representatives are available to assist you 7 days a week between the hours of 8:00 AM - 3:00 AM Eastern Time Zone.

What's going on? I got that after answering the "2 questions" to verify that it was my account... step 3 i think.

Do you have to cancel any membership etc. once this is done? I don't want any fees... thanks!

EDIT: wtf, very odd. I registered and everything seemed fine. At the next screen it prompted me to login. I tried my login and password and it said my password was wrong (I know it wasn't). I tried retrieving password using my SSN and birthdate and it said I wasn't on file. Uhh?

Might have answered one of them wrong. One of the questions they asked was my monthly mortgage pymt and all the numbers they had were very close, I almost put the wrong one down. There's no harm in calling them to verify, plenty of people have done it.

No need to cancel anything. When you say you registered that was on the Equifax page, not the Household one, correct?

I had the same problem at first. But then I figured it out.

Here's what you need to do:

1) Go to the linked web site.
2) Answer all the questions. Make sure you answer them correctly. If you get any wrong, simply hit the back button and try again until you get them all correct.
3) Once you get them all right, click the link to the next page to fill out your info to enter the sweepstakes. You don't really have to enter your info. Just make something up.
4) After submitting your info, there should be a link to the free Equifax report. Click it.
5) You should now be at the Equifax website. If you don't already have an account with them, fill out your info and register with them.
6) Once you do that and submit everything, you should see a web page that offers the free report. Actually, the page should be your check-out page, where the report is listed at $0.00, as if you were making a purchase and checking out. Once you hit the button to check-out, you're done. The report will be shown next.

That's all there is to it. If you mess up, just go back to the original link and try again. I did it like 3 times before I figured everything out.

Oh, and make sure you have your cookies enabled. The first couple of times, I deleted my cookies, trying to be on the safe side. But then I realized that the Equifax site needs the cookie from the original linked site to give you the free offer.

Hope this helps.
