Free Excel PC builder spreadsheet!

Yes, it?s that time again; time to build a new PC! It has been a long time coming for me (AMD Athlon XP) but it?s time to upgrade. I created an Excel spreadsheet that I used to generate the below figures which I thought might be useful to build a PC. The idea was that it would corral my imagination to produce something reasonably priced. I?m not sure if it worked?

Feel free to post comments and crits for my part choices.

About the spreadsheet:
- If you have a quantity > 0 then it will be counted in the pie chart
- Excel won?t save some options: right click on graph -> source data -> hidden and empty cells -> Show empty calls as: -> Gaps

I'm confused. What's in the spreadsheet?

If it's your plan for your build, people aren't likely to give advice on something they have to download and open first. You'd be better off just listing your parts here.

It?s simply a spreadsheet to help compute and visualize your build costs by doing a component price breakdown and lets you play with different part configurations. It took a bit of time to figure out the formulas to make the graph work, so I figured it had some value and I posted it here. Basically, if you?re thinking ?man, I wish I had a visual way to plan the optimum computer for the minimum price? then this spreadsheet is for you.

Considering your a new member and all its not wise to start out with a download. Looks like SPAM or your trying to hand out a virus. It all seams very suspect. Unfortunatly the forum doesn't have any means of reporting suspisious posts and threads.

No offence if you are on the up and up but it does seam very odd.

I?m not really getting why the big hoopla?! Everyone has an AV installed on his computer, eh?!

I personally appreciate your input and effort to help. I find the file(s) useful if I can find a way to ? make them work.

Can you tell me what exactly what it is I?m supposed to open and how you use these files? I tried using Excel but w/o much success. I?d really want to give this a try. Please post instructions or get back to me via email: iwillski@gmail.com

Are you planning on adding a second graphics card? If not, 850W is way more power than you need.

My ftp is acting up so I sent you the .xls and the .xlsx (MS Office 2007) file. When I did the conversion to .xls a lot of warnings went off that some features are not supported in Office 2003 so I don't know how that will work.

Yes, I was thinking about it, especially if this PPU/GPU ever takes off. Also, at about 1/2 power draw a PSU's voltages are as close as you're going to get to 3.3/5/12/etc since the output drops roughly linearly with PSU load. I also picked it for low noise and it's only $150!
