If you're interested, it's easy to get free tax filing (both fed and state) using link to Turbotax online at State Farm. It's not available yet, but the link will be active soon. All you have to do is have an active policy or open a credit card or savings account (minimum $100 balance), click on the banking link to apply. There are no fees as long as you keep $100 in the account. After your taxes are done, close the account and get your $100 back. I did this last year and will be doing it again this year.
Note that if your income is less than $52k a year, you may be eligible for free federal e-file, see this IRS link for details. But this won't give you free e-file in many states, for whatever reason (they should encourage it since it will save them money on processing, but many don't).
You'll file at Intuit's Turbotax website, and this means that they'll keep your data in their servers. Some don't like this, some don't care, but it sure makes it easier when you do taxes again the next year.
Note that you can also open a State Farm credit card for free to get this as well, but I don't think it's all that great since some folks might not want to get another card to put in the sock drawer (and take the credit inquiry hit). The Platinum card does pay 1% for every purchase towards a State Farm policy or bank account, but if you don't want to keep those then forget it.
Update 2008: This free file offer is still valid for the 2007 tax year, but you must be logged into your account with a valid policy, bank account/CD, or credit card to see the link for free TurboTax filing.
