Don't forget to make a transaction once you get the card.

Also (from Miles Program):

"Earn, 1,000 Bonus Miles each calendar month you make a purchase for 12 months from the date your account is opened, with a cap of 12,000 Bonus Miles. We are not responsible for merchant delays in processing transactions. This promotional offer is in addition to the standard Miles earned on purchases. Promotional Miles will be applied within 8 weeks."

"For every 5,000 Miles, get a $50 travel credit to your account towards your travel purchases:

* Choose any travel?any airline, cruise, vacation package, hotel stay or car rental.
* Book it?through any airline, travel agent or online travel site.
* Pay?with your Miles by Discover Card.
* Redeem?for travel credits to your account and you're on your way."

"For every 5,000 Miles, get a $25 account credit or have it electronically deposited into your bank account."

So, with little effort (1 purchase / month) you can get 12000 miles in a year and then redeem them for $100 if you travel or for $50 if you don't.

I am in (solid credit score and history) - will report results after card arrives and purchase made. Anyone had experience with these sort of deals?

Found links to this deal on SD and FWFW (where it is an Ad) so my guess is that it is legit, but kinda shady and may be a YMMV.

This looks legit. The Garmin is worth about $150 compared to $100 for the camcorder. I want the camcorder though, might be worth just getting the Garmin and selling it and buying a $250 Mini-DV one.

got my card today, called, pain free activation, actually got somebody from utah, didn't sound like he wanted to be there, but don't blame him at 9pm on a saturday nite. Bought a lite-on dvd writer on newegg for $22.99 shipped, then shredded the card. now just wait for my free gps

Foolish501: You're passing up the free $50 (or $100 travel credit) by shredding the card. Also, shredding it does nothing except prevent you (or possibly someone else) from using the physical card. It's still an open charge account on your credit rating, you have to close the account with Discover. And somehow I doubt you would get the gps if you closed the account right away.

Please thing to do is to use the card once a month, then collect the $50 (plus the gps earlier) then close the account.

Got mine, also connected to a (bored) real person after automatic activation, tried to sell be one of those protection plans that automatically charges your account. After two or three "nos" she got the message.

Though all of the high yield savings rates are way down from what they were a year or so ago, it's actually a good balance transfer card for paying off real debt or taking the money and investing temporarily. Max bt fee of $75...many cards are 3% with no limit these days.

BALANCE TRANSFER FEE: 3% for each balance transaction made under this offer, with a minimum of $10 and a maximum of $75.

Yeah, "while supplies last" does not make one feel comfortable, but:
1) people have been getting digicam/gps/etc. through this or similar offer (i.e., no reports of "it's been a month and it's not here yet")
2) they should take down the offer the moment supply is depleted. I believe this footnote is there to protect them from a few apps that might be submitted in the (hopefully) short time between they realize they have no supply and take down the web-site.

I think when I activated the CSR offered me a free balance transfer, maybe even zero percent interest for a while, but I didn't need it so I wasn't really paying attention.

Both my brother and I applied for one 2 days ago. My app was approved today...card should be in the mail.

Really hoping this works out well. They said if they run outta stock, they will replace it with another electronic item of similar/higher value. Dunno what else they might offer...but we kinda applied for the GPS... so finger crossed!
