Wooohooo!!! Never thought I'd see these again. Thanx.

I still have 2 packages of sea monkeys in storage, dated around 1973...I wonder if they're still viable.

I bought Sea-Monkeys for my 7 year old son for Christmas. They hatched okay and lived for about 5 days until it was time to feed them. They died after we fed them the first time. The general instructions say to give them one scoop of sea-monkey food. The more detailed instructions, hidden away somewhere, pointed out that there is a "little" scoop for the baby sea-monkeys and a "big" scoop for the adults.

Ooops!

Is this a great country or what? Only in America can a whole corporation exist on Sea Monkeys. I'm imaging the CEO living in a big house, a trophy wife and driving a Rolls with the plates: CMNKY

Check out their corp profile:

Want some "just-add-water" pets that really kick sea monkeys' asses? Get yourself some Triops---a kit sells for about $10 or so, can be found lots of places (ebay for instance). Grow much more rapidly and much larger than sea monkeys, don't require much attention, and are amazing to watch. Highly recommended for the biologically-inclined.

<< Brine shrimp >>

From the FAQ...

What ARE Sea-Monkeys?
Sea-Monkeys are a hybrid species of brine shrimp called "Artemia NYOS". "Artemia" is the genus they belong to, which includes Fairy and Brine shrimp. NYOS is the acronym for the New York Ocean Science Laboratories where they were created.

A person in a pet store insisted that Sea-Monkeys are just brine shrimp?
The person in the pet store should visit this website.

How are Sea-Monkeys different from brine shrimp?
There are several differences. Sea-Monkeys grow much larger (up to .5" long) and live longer than ordinary brine shrimp. They are also a lot more active and can be taught to perform "tricks", unlike ordinary brine shrimp.

I used to have these, I think you're required to use distilled water.
I had them going for a while, then I ran out of food...

That reply got a chuckle out of me. Sorry for 'ruining' the mystery behind these things.

I still remember my sister getting them when I was 4 yrs old. Even then I laughed uncontrollably with the literature that was provided. You could buy 'pet insurance' and it even gave instructions on how to 'train' them.

As for the mission statement on that link about doing goodwill for nature, I was about to puke. I didnt see anything regarding grants or donations made to any 'PETA' type organizations.

You guys do know that when your seak monkeys first die out. You wait until all the water evaporates. DON"T CLEAN THE TANK. Just refill the water, and BAM more sea monkeys. Because they lay eggs to survive dry outs for 2 generations on average. So you can evaporate the water twice and refill it twice and you'll have sea monkeys.

I believe the food is just common bakers yeast. If you run out get some from grocery store. Do no not overfeed (as referenced earlier) as you will pollute the water and deplete the dissolved oxygen. This means dead Sea Monkeys!!!

I grew a bunch of these before and they're pretty cool. Sort of like small horseshoe crabs and they do get pretty big. The triops packages usually have some sea monkeys mixed in and the triops eat them when they hatch.

This is great When I was younger, I got really good at this seamonkey thing. I had full grown adults and was able to have them breed and live for loooong periods of time too. Pretty cool to a young, scientific type mind.

I'll check out them tryops too...
