I just added it to my company's blocked app list.... can't goto to the website or install the application now.

Why? Because our intranet sites will fail....proxy.... and we use web-based VPN which proxy aps like this mess with.

Not worth the hassle for our helpdesk.....and it's not a business approved application at this time....

Yep, use this for Dialup, not broadband (is anyone who reads this site still on dialup anyway...?)

wtf. It's an accelerator for broadband connections only. Not for dial-up? Who needs accelerated broadband anyways?

It ended up slowing down my connection a lot. I found that downloads were significantly slower.

If you want to get rid of the FF lag, then just remove the plugin from firefox, and set the proxy server to 127.0.0.1:9100 and it'll work the same way. (Also works for Opera, etc.)

http://news.zdnet.co.uk/internet/security/0,39020375,39197327,00.htm

"On a Google Labs discussion group, one user said that the security implications of Google caching details of Internet sessions were unacceptable.

"I went to the Futuremark forums and noticed that I'm logged in as someone I don't know. Great, I've used Google's Web Accelerator for a couple of hours, visited lots of sites where I'm logged in. Now I wonder how many people used my cache. I understand it's a beta, sure, but something like that is totally unacceptable."

Google was not immediately available for comment, but said in a Web site statement that the service can receive information such as the user's IP address, computer and connection information, and "personally identifiable information", such as an email address.

"Whenever your computer sends cookies with browsing or prefetching page requests for unencrypted sites, we temporarily cache these cookies in order to improve performance," the company wrote on its Web site.

Information entered in SSL connections, such as Internet banking, will not be cached, the company wrote."

Another trick question: how do you measure up the "saved time" with the absence of "actual time"?

Overall, I think this is only a proven concept than practicle use, especially (and ironically) for broadband users. I could see in the future localized "web caching" to remedy the deficiency of yet popular Wi-Fi or 3G services, but until then, we are testers for the betas.

I would also imagine MS is doing something similar, perhaps something native in longhorn.

Heh ironically one of the things that this software really seems to speed up is the Anandtech forums, which are capped for non-premium users right?

Now the forums are flying...hmmm

Lowtax over at Somethingawful wrote up an article on it.

this is the article i was looking for, i was going to post it here as he brings up some really valid points. Google is everyones friend because of its catchy appreance and people just immediately trust what they put out, i think it should all be taken with a grain of salt, google is like every other company... they are in business to make money, dont be fooled.

It looks like it will work for any internet connection. IT is just so-called optimized for broadband. I have been using it and their so called performance meter is definitely inflating the saved time score. I don't think I will keep it installed since I can't tell absolutely NO different in anything. It says I saved 8.8 minutes so far which is definitely wrong. Probably not even half of that was really saved time. Oh well, who cares I guess.
