How's that possible when the habenero is the hottest thing there is?

I actually saw a show of foodtv showing how Daves is hotter.. They extract the oils from the pepper that have the heat and only use that. Since the real peppers have fillers, like skin, water, etc, and they don't have that they are hotter than the pepper was to begin with..

They claimed that the oils they use are 100M scoville. Which is hotter than a Habenero or Scotch Bonnet which avg 100k - 300k scoville, and pure capsaucin which is in the 15M scoville range.

Daves claimes to be the only one ever thrown out some annual "hot stuff" contest for being too hot.

Daves is the hottest d@mn thing I have ever tasted.. They also have a Ultimate Insanity, and Insantity limited, which is supposed t be 3x hotter than reg, insanity but its like $24/bottle on their website, IIRC.

A couple drops of dave in your wifes bbq sause will give you a moment of loud noice, but then the rest of the weekend will be quite!! Trust me on this.. She even took the milk out of the babies mouth!

I live in South Louisiana and am used to hot sauces (Cajun food = spicey). I can eat jalapenos raw and Dave's Insanity saunce is still something I won't even touch. phenix42 analysis is very accurate!

I don't understand. How can the oil be 100M Scoville units, while pure capsaucin (a crystal at that level of purity) being only 15M Scoville units? IOW, how can this be hotter than pure capsaucin, and yet still be liquid. That doesn't make sense.

Regardless, *bump* for hot sauce. It's good stuff.

PS. Habeneros are definately *not* the hottest pepper. I can eat them and Jalepenos raw, and they still don't compare with this one plant I ate once. I'm still trying to figure out what it was, it burned on the way down the entire *day*. Hottest thing that I've ever eaten, bar none. (And I really like hot food.)

Not all habaneros are created equal. There are a lot of different varieties and the conditions under which they're grown can effect the heat. You CAN NOT eat most habaneros raw, for comparison a jalapeno is about 5,000 scoville units and a real habanero can get to 500,000. The most extreme Habaneros definitely *ARE* the hottest pepper.

I agree!
I've been addicted to the hottest stuff I can find for the last 40 years and nothing even comes close to Dave's Insanity Sauce.

I guess whatever version I tried must have been the "common" variety, not those exclusive half-a-million scoville habeneros. But if I ever come across one, I will have at least a bite of it raw. It's not like those things are deadly, right?

As far as a haberano, the local megamarts in St. Louis carry a wide assortment of peppers. Hab's, Jap's, Tab's, Anaheims, bananna, etc.. There is a local store called "Schnucks" that carries Daves as well. Pricey, yes, but that $6 bottle of Daves will last for like 2 years!

If you ever get froggy with a haberano, start with the flesh(da orange part), you might be suprised.. Beyond that, take the flesh, and scrape, or cut off the membrane from the inside of the flesh. That will cut a lot of the heat away.. Same goes for any pepper.. The heat is concentrated in the center white pithy part and the seeds.. The heat also is on the inside of the center cavity.. If you remove these parts, you are left with the "fruity" taste of the pepper, and it is most certianly edible, even for a haberano.

Useless knowledge, the little brownish red pepper that is used in Chinese cooking, (think general tso's chicken) is a "Thai Bird", and its way up on the scoville scale with the Hab's and Scotch Bonets.

Last thanksgiving, at work, another guy and I made Chili for 50 people, and I put a shotglass of Daves with a toothpick in it next to the hot chili, and a big warning, not for the faint of heart notice next to it. My bottle of daves is about 1/2 gone, and there might be some residue from "Davie fingers" on the outside of the bottle, and there were people, not used to hot stuff, who mearly fondled the bottle of Daves then rubbed their eyes.. A couple of people claimed they had to go home because of the irritation to their eyes..

Umm as a competitor to Dave's Insanity Sauce, I vote that Blair's Mega Death is in fact THE hottest standalone sauce in the world. It cost me $11 for a 5oz bottle and it's the best investment i've made in a long time. When I first bought this bottle, just a drop on a slice of warm pizza made my brow sweat and my nose run. However, I am Indian (the Asian kind) and I have a much higher tolerance than anybody else I know (yes I am bragging), so I got used to it. Now it takes 3-4 drops on the same slice to make my mouth tingle and water to start accumulating. Ehh, still amazing stuff. Will destroy Dave's Insanity Sauce. And I've checked out spice racks from all over and found that the only things hotter are additives such as "the Source" and "Blair's 6am special". Additives WILL do physical harm if used by themselves and also cost >$100 per bottle. So I'm saving up for one . I challenge anyone to find a better sauce... If you're interested in a sauce rating scale in order from highest to lowest scoville units, here it is:
Hot Sauce Scale

Got my sample today.... Signed up on 6/24

It's about 2X the size of a Taco Bell hot-sauce.
Haven't tried it yet, so can't comment on hotness.

I also can't comment on the resulting spam, since I put in a phony email addy -- but they do include a little mini-flyer with some religious stuff about the bible and jesus -- weird for a business to do that, but oh well.
