I actually decided to get the Kingston Memory off of outpost.com and I built a whole system tonight. I used the "Athlon 3500+ .90 with Half Life 2 for $20 off" making my HL2 only $30... so if you need a new system, this was a good deal for HL2. I don't know if anyone saw that as another option to get HL2 cheap.

So dude.... just stop.... unless you have anything to add on topic.

I've been around over four years, I never used the forums much until I became addicted to Hot Deals. Plenty of the other posters on here have been around as long/longer than me and been much more active. Like I originally said, you've posted 1000+ times in a little over 4 months...you are a n00b dude.

(This is my last post in this thread, let the deal talk continue)

I heard the best sticks or ram out right now are the Crucial Ballistix PC3200. People get these running at Cas 2-2-2-5 @DDR460 and 2.5-2-2-5 at DDR514 with only 2.6V!!!! Not too expensive either. You can buy them direct from Crucial $128.99 a stick. No free HL2 though.

Info via anandtech review

Crucial Website

Some people think Crucial Ballistix is the best ram for < 250FSB and TCCD the best ram for > 250FSB. I'm too cheap to buy either. I'm happy with my old BH5 and Hynix.

Let's see..... you really believe 2-2-2-5 will give you 5% improvement in your system's performance over 2-3-2-6 ? If you do, then you're the real ignorant here, and I'm sure everyone are laughing their ass off reading your wild conjectures. These differences are so slight, you're not likely to see a 0.01% difference in performance overall, and even memory tests will not show any significant difference. Second, the people that come here primariliy are looking for deals (hint: look at the category), and they do care about getting a good deal vs just paying any price to get that extra bit of performance. If they didn't care about price, they could just go and buy the best without looking at hot deals threads. In the end, a good deal is measured based on price/performance ratio, and based on that paying 50% more to get 0.01% does not constitute good value. And believe it or not, people do appreciate when other knowladgeable members comment on the value of a deal, because just the fact that the original poster thinks it's a good deal doesn't neccessarily mean it is. That's why you see many "hot deal" acknoledgement posts, or "not hot" posts, and most people welcome this feedback.

So keep your criticism to yourself [pwned]

The reason these 2-2-2-5 modules are good is because they use the new chips as described in this AT article:

http://www.anandtech.com/memory/showdoc.aspx?i=2145

They give a much higher overclocking potential than the 2-3-2-6 modules, which contain Winbond CH-5 chips. Obviously, there is only a small percentage of the overall population that would actually shell out the extra money for these chips; but for these overclocking enthusiasts, that extra overhead is well worth the extra cash, since these chips will get you the fastest available memory speeds attainable basically. It is no coincidence that AT used 2-2-2-5 chips like these in their DFI Lanparty nF3 here:

http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=2198

The definition of a "good deal" is completely relative. If you are one of those enthusiasts and also really wanted to get HL2, this would be a damn good deal. $263 is an average deal for this ram, but you're basically getting a $50 instant rebate towards a HL2 purchase. This forum is for all kinds of bargain hunters...not just for your definition of what a "good deal" is.

With that said: Good find, hugobomber...it was definitely worth the read for anyone who is an OCer and a HL fan...

Looks like a difference of about 5% between 2-2-2-5 and 2-3-2-6. And even if they're completely wrong with their numbers, there's also the ability to OC higher with 2-2-2-5 memory, but that's already been stated.

damn man, you people need to get off user1234's dck.

I'm glad he offered his opinion and everyone else's response to it(save the personal attacks). I don't think he was thread crapping but throwing out diff variables for people. I don't think this is all that great of a deal. I bought two Rosewill(2x512) for 142 shipped and they run 2336 at 220. Thats good enough for me. For people trying to get 260fsb from pc3200 memory, you's are real gamblers and probably the only ones who see the hotness of this deal. plus i preloaded hl2 months ago...

This memory is "2-2-2-5-1"

And it's Kingston. Kingston ram does not like to have the timmings changed. So if you are an OC'er this might not be the best ram for you.
