This thing is very buggy, if you download it, save the entire file to disk and then install. You'll be glad you did because you will most likely have to reinstall it, a few times. first installation screwed up email and D.U.N on mine . but now is fixed.
It does have some neat new tricks tho. like one click save of files. and it seems to have a built in resume function for downloads.
beware it is a system hog on win98, wimME and 2000 it seems to work very smooth.

I installed it and have had no problems whatsoever. Installed fine on the first go, everything works, I like it!

I installed it on my WinME machine (P3-800/256/RadeonLE) and it's working great. It's a lot faster than 5.5, and it hasn't crashed on me yet. I've been running it for about 4 days.

Be afraid, very afraid. Microsoft software without the first service pack is bad enough. If you are brave enough make sure to backup your files first.

Geez are you people real Anadtecher's? You guys sound like a bunch of whiney little bitches. Beta software wah wah, The real techies that used to come to Anandtech lived for beta software and stuff like that.
I'm amazed you would crap on someones thread that fits perfectly into subject matter for a techie site.

I've been an Anandtech fan for 4 years, but now I'm starting to wonder who the average Anandtech visitor really is anymore.

I think the average Anandtecher knows enough about Microsoft to be leery of their betas ...noone "lives" for beta software. Bugs are not "features", bug are bugs. Wish Microsoft would just admit that.

I installed it last night and it seemed to work ok.... but I had to uninstall it because my bank's web site wouldn't let me access my account values. Apparently they haven't validated IE6's security yet....

If you are talking about moving those top docking bars in IE6, try right clicking on any grey region up top, de-select the Lock Docking Bar (might have the entry name wrong), it should let you move things around again.

Took me a while to figure this out too.
(feeling funny posting this in a Hot Deal forum)

I've installed internet explorer 6 into 2 computers and have had no problems. For the people who are having problems you should seriously look at the stability of your computer. I just ran netscape and internet explorer 6. Netscape 6 uses 29 megs of ram compare that to Internet explorer 6 which uses about 10 to 11 megs. Both of these I ran in the same system using windows 2000 sp1. I have 256 megs of ram and only 1 browser window was open at a time.
And duh to the person saying that there are bugs! This is a beta what do you expect? I would be truly surprised if software had no bugs.

"Beta software," my eye. This is some of the best, non-crashing piece of code I've ever seen. Recommended to everyone!
BTW this has been around for a couple days now...

<< Installed on both (Win2K and Win2k advanced server). Both fine. An order of magnitude faster...hold on....! >>

What kind of server are you running that you would install beta software on?

I've been running it for a couple days and there have been no probs. I like it alot actually. Good integration of "Windows Explorer" like options and MSN Messenger is actually not bad cuz it has Hotmail "You have mail" updates. i have had a problem with explorer not saving my toolbar settings. Anyone know how to keep them in place?

Wait, you mean to tell me the people bitching about the stability of this beta HADN'T EVEN DOWNLOADED IT TO TRY IT? That can't be!!!

christ people. at least make a half-assed effort to be informed about your posts. I ahve no idea if this thing works or not, but if this Beta crashes half as often as Netscape's last final release, I'll be happy.

Been using IE betas since 4.0 came out, and I still have the disc they sent me. Just upgraded and I think I like the subtle changes.

So... U mean u are not running any "Mission-Critical" data c'ause if you are, your gonna get a quick lesson about installing "public preview" software (and BETA).

I too am a LanAdmin (>200 clients) and I'm telling you, you could NOT pay me to install this Pre-service pack X on ANY of my serverz (Not that I would anyways...).

Downloaded it and been running it about 30 mins... no installation problems, no crashes. Dont notice anything different, except the privacy features.
