do any of these voip programs run much better than teamspeak? even on a 100Mb/s lan, i get about a 2 sec delay with teamspeak. are any of these just like a phone? if so which ones allow for groups so i could use them instead of teamspeak and get rid of the annoying lag?

Skype > Google Talk > Ventrilo > TeamSpeak

i had about the same situation with ventrillo.

does skype allow for 5-8people on a single "chat line"?

Free - maximum 5 people

Pay - supposedly they were going to allow more than 5 if you pay per minute fees not sure if this ever happened or not.

Skype has a nice IM feature that allows you to change your status to "invisible". No one can tell if you're online, but they can still send you messages and you can respond. That's the ONLY thing I like about Skype IM. Do you know if any other IM clients have that feature?

MSN, Yahoo, every client except stupid aol

I used google talk last night and it worked great. I found a new way to communicate easily when playing net games Nice thing is it was only using ~11mb of system resources, less than half of a single window of firefox

AIM, GAIM, and Trillian all do invisible mode as well.
I installed AIM, but I can't find any way to prevent my buddies from knowing that I'm signed "on", or "away" or "idle" (whatever they mean).
