Free Increased Upload for Verizon DSL

Wow, I feel like I'm in the minority with a 3.0/384 DSL connection from Bellsouth. I get great consistent speeds and uptime. I just got upgraded from 1.5/256 a couple of weeks ago, the speed increase is definitely nice.

Called, no wait time. Went from 768/128 to 1.5M/128. Don't know why I didn't qualify for the faster upload speed, but was happy with a faster download speed. Also got the decrease to $29.95/mo. That alone was worth the call! Thanks for the heads up!

http://nyc.speakeasy.net is pretty awesome, (it's dslreports, I guess) but if you want you can
use a program like Net Stat Live or Netlimiter to test the upload/download.

Just send an e-mail to yourself with a large attachment, then monitor the performance.

So, for those of us in the "special naked DSL areas" (Northeast and somewhere else -- I forget) this may be a real alternative to Comcast after the summer. Instead of paying $8 for cable and $45 for cable modem, I can pay $30 for the same speed. Hmm...

I just called - it's funny. I was ULTRA POLITE to my csr - joked around, flirted a lil bit - I asked her about switching over and she was more than happy to. Guess what? Turns out Verizon never defaulted my plan from $29.99 up to $34.99 like they were supposed to I originally signed up for their Freedom Plan but canceled that because there was an ungodly amount of hidden charges - I don't pay the bill normally so I had always assumed they upped it to $34.99. Oops

It's show a plan rate of $29.99 on Verizon DSL site. I guess they lower there price.

i read the press release on the verizon web site. i noticed at the top of the press release it says New York... does that mean the upgrade of your package is only in New York or the East coast? or does it apply to anyone who has dsl by Verizon? please let me know, if its everywhere i'll call them up on monday.

i actually called 2day to sign up for a verizon local calling plan and asked about the speeds and my distance from the office/hub. looking on dsl reports and mapquest it seems that I am under 10k feet which is sweet. when i asked the csr about this she was confused. she also was not sure about the upload speed but thought it was still 128. this is for buffalo NY. anyone know anything different? unfortunately when i tried to sign up with dell sign they are offering $100 rebate they do not detect my new number that starts monday as being elligible for dsl. i will have to wait longer for internet at my new place which stinks. anyway, 29.95 for 1.5m/128k was what the csr thought. she suggested i call the tech department but i had to to run anyway. i will verify monday when they open.
on another note, adelphia offers the cable modem which is 3m/128k. i assume that the dsl will be 384k up. also adelphia says no servers of any kind and i run an ftp server for music. PLUS they are 32.95 and are only offering that to cable subscribers. I figure with verizon i will get some free months plus a cheaper rate plus half the down and the same upload which should change to the same download and double the up over teh summer. we shall see!

FWIW, I just signed up last week (SWITCHED BACK AFTER 6 MONTHS WITH CABLE) arg caps lock,,,
and got the 1.5/384 without asking for it. I live in a 3 yr old building, that might have something to do with it?

DAMN, I hate having dialup! Can't get DSL b/c I have fiber optic lines outside my house and Cable is too expensive. Nice deal for all you lucky DSLers

I just called Verizon. Agent said I'd be upgraded tomorrow (1 business day). No extra cost. And yes, faster service sometime in July. She did have to check my line to see if it was capable for the upgrade. It took all of ten seconds before she said I qualified. Fun!

My DSL service light on my Westell 2200 just blinked and settled on ready - so I took myself over to DSLR, got myself a speed test and what do you know...384k up. Bitchin'.
