Called today (7th) ... got directed to the correct csr ... said i was good to go and said since it was pass 4:00 PM that the change shouldn't take affect until 6:00PM on the 9th.

Got the rate change too (35.95 ->> 29.95), after telling them that i had local/long distant service as well, i just had to get the dsl billed to the phone bill and not a credit card.

Hopefully it'll be up sooner then that!

Anyone know if new installations are getting the speed increases automagically? I've got Earthlink 1.5/384 right now (Earthlink says I should be getting 3.0/384 but I'm not...maybe I should bitch). However, if I can get Verizon for $20 less per month, that would be schweet indeed.

Well, talked to customer service, they said I wasn't able to upgrade. I asked if they could check my line, so they transferred me to Technical Support. They said I AM eligible. They said my loop length is 6,099ft which is well within the distance requirement of 12k ft for the upgraded upload speed....

So, it's back on the line with customer service I go.....

I just called Verion CS and asked about two things.

1. Asekd to adjust my montly payment to $29.95. She told me that it was done already but I didn't do it. anyway it's good.

2. Asked to upgrade my upgrade speed to 384. She said I don't have to call for this matter, it will be differ per each state. I live in WA and it will be ready in next 3 weeks. I just decide to wait to it increases.

Thanks for the info LordThing...

Okay there are actually two upgrades happening here. One is upload 128 -> 384. Another is they have increased the maximum loop distance for the 1500Kbps download speed to 15,000 ft (768kbps down is now bumped out to 18,000ft).

Anyway I've been stuck at 768/128 up until now so I called last Wed (6/2) to see if they could bump me up to 1500/384. Spoke to a Vz billing rep and she told me "no."

Next day I call again and talk to a Tech rep. I question the loop length distance they gave me which seemed much higher than before. He said no I didn't qualify for the 1.5 speed but I should be able to get the increased upload. He transferred me to Billing to request it.

The Billing rep tells me Yes I do qualify for both the 1.5 upgrade AND the increased upload speed and she'll put in the request. She says 1-2 business days, could go into effect as early as tomorrow night (6/4).

Anyway here is 6/9 and I still am at 768/128.
I guess I'll wait the full 10 days before complaining.

Thanks for the heads-up, LordThing. I'd been meaning to call about this for some time, but kept forgetting about it until I saw this thread.

Called yesterday at about 4:15 p.m., finished the call before 4:25 p.m. CSR was quite pleasant, speed upgrade was approved (from 768/128 to 1.5/384) in just a couple of minutes, and ended up with my bill getting dropped by $5/mth. I was told the upgrade would take 2 - 3 business days to kick in, but the change went into effect this morning.

well, i called verizon on moday. i was on hold for awhile but then i finally got to talk to the CSR (he was pretty nice) and i asked him about the upgrade for the same price. He said he had to check the lines to see if i qualified for the 1.5/384 upgrade. I asked him if they will be upgrading getting later on to 3.0m download but he wasn't sure. Also my friend called same day and he also qualified for the upgrade. CSR said it should take 5 business days so they said by the 14th it should take affect. well thanks again LordThing.

I'm on with them again now. Thankfully, the tech I spoke to last night DID note my account that my line is indeed eligible for the speed upgrade. So hopefully this 3rd call will get it done....

Well, i'll give this CS rep credit, she did try very hard to get me upgraded, but wasn't able to.

She tried to get me to Tech support after "talking to her supervisor", but I wouldn't let her. I said, "if it is YOUR system that won't let YOU upgrade my account DESPITE what YOUR technical support department says, shouldn't YOU be the one to talk to them about it?".

So she did, and tech support said they couldn't do anything about it (and she had thought if I talked to them they could).

So she spoke to sales (and her supervisor some more) with no luck.

THEN, she came back and said the reason was, although technically my LOOP LENGTH is ok (6099 feet) my GAUGE LENGTH is over 12000 feet. And apparently when tech support qualified my line for the upgrade, they didn't factor in for the wire gauge and the additional length associated with it.

Does that sound right?

Here's the banger, they said right now I'm provisioned for a 768/128k line, BUT, i'm at 1.5/128k. So I expressed to her that her own system is contradicting itself twice over.

But alas, what it came down to is the good ol' line, "I'm sorry, but I can't do anything about it".

I hope I don't get fvcked if/when they upgrade the download speed.....

Well here is the dog and pony show I had to go through!

I guess to cut this long story short...
I had to dial (800) 567-6789. Talk with SALES.
Tell them I want to be upgraded to the WHOLESALE ACCOUNT.
I had to cancel my excisting service to do this and they would call back within 3 to 5 days to upgrade my service. They also had to send out a new modem. Then I'd be able to get the 1.5 - 384!!!!

Now the why...
The CSR, on the sales side, told me I had a "Old School Account". I was 11600 feet from the CO. I only qualifed for 1.5 down and 128 up. Although BILLING said I was only qualifed for 728 down... whatever.
Soooo, the story the SALES CSR wove for me goes like this. Verizon is upgrading to ATM modems from Frame modems. ANYONE who is set up with the ATM modems (up to 16000 feet of the CO) can get 1.5-384. She swore on blood to this... again.... whatever. Because I had such a old account (2 years) I was on a frame modem and under a billing code of RETAIL I could never get the new speeds. I had to cancel and get on the WHOLESALE billing code. She had no idea why billing did not let me know this??

Hope this rambling helped some. I guess you just have to ask the right question or say the right words. Again the words being WHOLESALE and has to be done through SALES DEPT.
CSR on sales side was named Lakeisha. Ask for her maybe.

Good luck!

it's been 6 days and i'm still at 128 up. as for the whole frame vs ATM thing. i went through that too setting up my service a couple months ago. i had the old fujitsu modem from back when i used to have them. i signed up and they asked if i needed a modem, i said no, i still had the fujitsu, and asked if that was still ok. sales person said yeah. so i get the line up, i got 3 solid lights and no connectivity. i get on the phone with support and they said i needed a westel cause of the changes in the c/o. i say ok, i get the modem a few days later (nice overnight shipping), plug it in, no solid lights except the power. it was funny that the old modem got 3 solids and the new got none, which took me an hour on the phone of convincing. they finally got my line up and running another 2 weeks down the road of constant calling and nagging. took me probably close to a month before i could actually use my DSL. so i'm not counting on my speed upgrade for another 2-3 weeks after i went through all that trouble just trying to SETUP the service.

Crap. I am on an old frame relay here and they have no plans to change it anytime in the next millenium. Frikken city government locked in an exclusive deal with Verizon. Either that or Time Warner cable.

I did find that I was able to drop my billing rate by five bucks a month by switching to Verizon long-distance. I don't use that phone for long distance calls and give me 30 minutes free a month without raising my regular phone plan. So at least that was helpful.

Currently on the phone doing the upgrade.

Hope they increase the download to 3Mb. That would be schweet!

Edit: I asked while on the phone, and they will be increasing to 3 down by mid July. Unfortunately, you will need to call to get that increase too, but I will be scanning the press releases weekly now.

took me 5 min to save + upgrade
thanks! Penny save, penny earn.

ram07032,
my Newark upgrade came through in one day [now at 1461/369, Verizon tests it at 1560.7] . My zip is 07105, and the CO is on Market St, approx 1 mile away, though I don't remember how many wire feet.
I have an "old" account from 2000, and I was told that it was somehow locked in to the original speed. The sticking point was said to be that I had originally included the available dial-up additional option, so when I a) offered to drop that, and b) mentioned the magic name of Comcast, I got the upgrade plus a $5 drop to $29.95.
Over all, customer service was pleasant, if you enjoy having to bargain and grovel.

Called in around 3:45 PM last night after being directed to the billing Dept. and a 5 minute conversation rep said that it would happen within the next 2 buisness days.

Came home around 6:00PM reset the modem. Speed was already upped.
Great service. Thanks Verizon.
Waiting for that Down rate update in July.

I knew this was going on from dslreports. I called about two weeks ago and a cheerful lady said it would take 5 - 7 days. Well suffice to say, nothing happened. So I called again, and asked for it again and 20 minutes later, bobs your uncle, 354kbps upload speed from 127kbps.
Dslreport's CO distance test puts me at 6900 ft away from Central Office. But from Verizon I am at 10300ft. No thanks to loops.

I spoke to a Verizon rep and he said they were going to be rolling out 3.0Mbps downloads in a few months. Seems like they're trying to compete with Earthlink. Earthlink said they are rolling their 3.0 out in October, but are offering it to individuals now when they call to change to Verizon.
