Ok...I know there are alot of free ISPs but their starting to limit online access and are slow and have a large banners. Netzero only 40 hours and Bluelight only 25 hours, but if you have an American Express card you can get unlimited ISP without a damn banner.(there is however a tiny box that says "American Express". One catch, you need an American Express Card. So much for "the defender of the free world", bastards.

check it out at www.amexol.com

I even click on NetZero's banners because someone told me that was the reason why I was getting cut off. I found out that wasn't the reason and got cut off.

There are ads, actually. They pop-up (i don't know if that is the best way to describe it) every couple of minutes or so. Only major brands like Walmart or Sony. No Casino's here. They arn't really that noticable. The transparent "American Express" logo is stamped on your computer screen, and stays even if you arn't using the internet. The only way to get rid of it is to uninstall the software.

If you uninstall the software, you have to start from scratch to re-install it (i.e. enter name, address...like signing up for a new account). It's only at the end that they ask you if you have had an American Express Online account in the past. So you can't really just uninstall, re-install to get rid of the logo, and yet use the free internet.

American Express's useless Smart Card reader also put a non-removable "American Express" logo on your screen. That seems to be their plan for world domination or something. In both cases, I just uninstalled.

Oh yea, 53k connection at peak times with no busy signals. Software never crashed. Great Service, except for the logo. Seems to work with all AMEX cards, including and especially blue.

yea Blue counts. thats what I used. Yea there is a small banner ad but it doesn't get in the way of anything. Its kind of nice what they did. the ad only appears when you're not active. This is so cool. thank you american express.

i know this sounds rid--ee--cu--louse, but i'm asking anyway...
nobody can hack your card with this setup, can they? it'd be nice tho(maybe), cause amex would know they've got proof(maybe? let me read how this stuff works--sorry)
edit: thanks

Beats me, but it seems you don't need to register for a username to access the internet. After the software orginally calls the 800 number (and sends your credit card info), it hangs up and calls the local access number. From there, as soon as you are connected, you can still surf the web even if you don't complete the registration. I screwed the registration up midway through, didn't complete it, but it still gave me full access.

If you are a student at a four year institution, the student Am Ex card can get you airline tickets for almost nothing.

I don't have an AE card. What's the best deal out there for one?
I don't carry a balance, love getting "rewards" and hate paying annual fees.

Blue is free, so is the optima line. Great deals too, especially now that they have Buyers Assurance Protection (like PriceMatch, but only for B&M stores). Oh and I was wrong. The American Express logo isn't permanently placed on your screen. You can get rid of it if you exit out of the program (duh!).

Does anyone know how to keep the software from loading on startup? I know it's a simple question, but I forget.

Thanks...it worked. The one to disable the program is called "Gluon" apparently...

This might be a free ISP idea that really works. I think it's likely that they'll tie their new paperless bill concept into this somehow. I read that to send a you a bill every month costs these companies an average of $3 each. They can potentially save that on every user. And they can save another $2/person for each electronically made payment. Cut those expenses, plus add to your market share by encouraging people to sign up for your card, and Amex has a profitable program.

Thus, I expect them to screw it up by February.

Not bad for free. I need something like this cuz my regular ISP has a limited area and I am outside that area on weekends. Was using Freelane till they lost all the local numbers for my area. This Amex service looks even better. I am using it right now. Working good. Adds are a lot less obnoxious than Freelane's.
