If you have Microsoft Excel 2000, you got a free driving game from some Microsft programmers too.

Do not waste your time if you have already patched it to SR1, and forget about it if you are using other versions of Excel including Excel XP.

Here is how to claim your game:

1) Start Excel with a new blank worksheet
2) Save the current worksheet as a webpage and name it "2000.htm" (using "save as..." under file menu, in the "save as" window. select the second option "Selection: Sheet" and check the box that says "Add interactivity".
3) Open the saved webpage with Internet Explorer. You will see your execl sheet laying in the center of the page.
4) Move the cursor to cell 2000:WC, use pagedown key to get there quickly
5) Select the entire row of 2000, with row 2000 highlighted, use your tab key to tab across to column WC.
6) Now hold down cntrl, shift and alt and at the same time click on the office logo in the top left corner of the open browser excel sheet. (the four puzzle pieces logo)
7) Here you go, the free offer from Microsoft programmer.
8) To drive use your arrow keys to direct the car, O to spill gas, spacebar to fire, H to turn on headlight.

Enjoy!

Pretty Wild!

The Excel 97 version works for me. Just remember to hold the CTL-Shift WHILE you click the chart wizard.

If you haven't done it, you aren't missing much but a nice easter egg

For some reason what I captured in game by pressing PrintScrn Key is all garbage. It looks like it uses Direct3D but I am not 100% sure. In task manager, the game is listed as "Dev Hunter"...

Yup, this really works. more like an easter egg than a game.

I worked for the Excel group in 95 and they were a wild group that did all sorts of bizarre things. In the version we worked on (97) there is a similar flying 'game' (hardly a game), here's how to access it:

Boot Excel 97
Hit F5 and type 'x97:l97' (without the quotes) and press ENTER
Press TAB
Hold down CONTROL and SHIFT and click on the chart wizard toolbar button-- this should bring you to a purple landscape with a dark background
Navigate yourself to the credits (it can be tricky to find) by using the mouse:
left mouse button - accelerate
right mouse button - decelerate
move mouse up, down, left, right - steer

They have credits listed up somewhere in the flying field.

So how do they decide what contortions to make the user go through to find these easter eggs, anyway?

I don't know how people could be happy about this. To me it would be bloatware. Extra space on your hard drive that was wasted without your knowledge.

Hehe That's too funny, I didn't think it was for real til I tried it out, but there it was.
It's a pretty cheezy driving game with the designer names written up and down the highway.
Thanx for the few mins entertainment
