I just got back from it. They didn't ask for any ID, but they are no longer offering small business server. It's just Office 2003 or Virtual PC.

Went to it today in Birmingham. They offer VPC or Office, but include a flyer to get SBS as a Microsoft partner. So, you get either VPC or Office AND SBS

Hehe, me and a couple of co-workers were at the Bham TS2. Where were you sitting?

The new SBS2003 deal is that you have to take an online Patrners training course and post your customer success story. You will get a free "For Resale" copy of SBS2003.

I was the one (asian guy) that asked about the ipsec problem during one of the breaks. My friend and I sat up at the top over the entrance way.

Well, I am going tomorrow in SLC. I just hope it is worth my time... Virtual PC could be useful once my company goes to Linux...

I was at the event as well. I hope you weren't one of the guys behind us. Right away my buddy said oh look it's the anandtech group. All they did was talk to loudly to each other and type away on their beeping laptops. Then as everyone was getting out they were yelling "Where's my server!" The exact reason they should have been more strict as to who they let in.

You went to the one in Milwaukee? I was in the second to front row, so I didn't notice any messing around. It was all very nice where i was sitting. I got out of there as quick as possible because I didn't eat much all day and I needed food quick so I didn't hear anyone. What was their response to the server, since the server is no longer offered in the One+ deal?

Yup the 1:00pm TS2 event in Milwaukee at the Hyatt. They didn't say anything because I don't think they realized you couldn't get sbs2003 untill they got home and found out on the website.

I must admit I was pretty disappointed sbs2003 wasn't available anymore. I was looking forward to trying it out in the office here.

For those that went already.. My boss scheduled an important meeting half-way through it.. Do you think I will still get my free SW if I only show up for half of it?

Nope, they hand it out at the end.

I was going to deploy it on a new server here. I was running the trial on a workstation a month ago, but it requires over 512mb of ram just to boot. It's a real memory hog.

SBS 2003 works just fine on a test machine i have here with 256MB RAM although box recommends 384MB.

When you get there they check your registration ticket and give you a survey that you have to hand in at the end. If they close registration and do not give you the survey after the event starts you may not get the coupon for the software. I don't know if they do this though, good luck.

On the registration page they claim that they'll ask each attendee to prove that they're actually employed in an IT-related firm.

Has the staff at each event actually been performing such a check? What forms of proof are they accepting?

My dad just went to one of the seminars a few weeks ago and came home with office 2003 for free no problems at all. His is a consultant that has nothing to do with being an IT.

Well Microsoft has managed to piss me off yet again. I just got back from trying to go to the TS2 seminar in SLC and they said it was full. Even though I had registered 3 weeks earlier apparently they allowed 500+ people to register for a seminar with a 180 people capacity. There were a LOT of pissed off people there! They said that they were going to only allow the free software to people that were "microsoft partners" and that TechTV was the cause of all the problem cause they said it was free software for everyone- which is why so many people registered....

So, I wasted a few hours today and I'm going to spend another 1/2 hour sending them an email with my opinion on the matter. It seems the longer this runs the more stingy they are about giving out the software...even though I do qualify, there are many that didnt and will be pissed after sitting though a 4 hour seminar.
