Oh wells, I will then have to try it on my main system.

it doesn't "officially" support running on xp home but there is nothing to stop it from working, many have run it quite successfuly on xp home.

Edit: never mind. It only supports MS-DOS, OS/2 Warp, and Windows family products.

it can run any OS that will install on a x86 machine.... people have installed hacked os x, various linux distro's and even vista on it...

it has bios options you can even tweak, it boots up in a window like yer average PC just hit f1 for setup if i recall correctly.

Sigh.

No luck installing fedora core on this (as a virtual machine under WinXP Pro)...maybe the VMware one will work.

stick with vmware. i have images of win98, fedora 4 and 5 on vmware, all run flawlessly.

ms one may be ok, but i'll stick with something that i know works for me rather than experiment more.

also with virtual servers, you can basically run the OS on any hardware platform. Therefore if one server goes down, you can easily have it up and running on another one in no time.

So would you be running like an image of another server? What about all of the data that is on the hard drive of the server?

Same here...no go for Fedora Core 5 or Ubuntu. Oh well...I'll figure something out.

I've installed FC5 no problem with VPC2004(XPhome host) and VS2005R2(XPpro host.) What seems to be the problem?

The only alteration to the install it needs is in video selection of thousands of colors, not millions; and I think it has a screen resolution limitation, also.) DSL had this same problem, IIRC.

Personally, I like both of them. They both have their strengths. Virtual PC 2004 is insanely easy to set up and get a VM running. VMware Workstation lets you customize just about anything. They both are a little bit better at running certain OSes, so use whichever one runs your guest OS better. I use them both on a regular basis.

I assume the VMWare server is similar in set up and customizability (is that a word? lol) to VMWare Workstation. Virtual Server 2005 is, like Virtual PC, not so hard to use, either.

Moral of the story: They're both free. Use them both!

I am using VPC2004 on an XPPro host. Both distros of linux complained about something to do with the hard disk type. Maybe it couldn't mount the disk or something, I really have no idea...but then again, I'm not exactly a guru at installing linux. I'll try VS2005 and/or VMware next.

I am stuck at the root password section in installing fedora. Keyboard is not responding and fedora would not let me move forward without root password. Anyone can help me in working around this? Host OS is Vista.

Gonna try installing Fedora in VMWare.
