Ah they finally changed the interface to something more this century. It also has daily minimized update default activated. Seems like THE antivirus program to beat. You might as well throw away your Norton/McAfee cuz i am.

i think i've noticed the license in version 6 as well. It might have to do with making you update instead of running old outdated definitions. I highly doubt they'd just stop the free version, which has been around for quite some time. I've been using the beta far a while and it's been good with no problems. I think the biggest feature for the average person is that scheduler/auto update is on by default. I think that feature alone has turned off alot of people about version 6 (since they didnt know an auto update feature existed).

Hmm, i did a little experiment and found after that date on your system clock the program expires and turns into a demo. There is a thread on the german forums about this. Anyone read german?

link

License:: demo version
If you installed AntiVir personnel edition Classic as demo version (without a valid license file), the program is limited to the following functions:

Scanner
Only files and listings on the C-partition are scanned.

Guard
100,000 files on the C-partition are scanned, afterwards the Guard stops its work.

Update
No updates are possible.

I'm using Anti-Vir now and am reasonably happy with it. I hate that you have to manually update it and would not install it on anyone's else's computer for that reason. It's no big deal to update it (usually, and except for that stupid popup) but my theory is anti-virus programs should be idiot-proofed as much as possible.

QUERY-Comcast is now offering McAfee (the suite, basically) for free to subscribers. Is there any compelling reason why I should not switch to that?

I don't have this one, so I can't speak about it, but AVG and Avast both have nice 100% free (ad free, etc.) versions.

If you don't like the clicking, feel free to grab 'em from my site - http://www.missingbytes.net

I try to keep it updated w/the latest versions of everything. It's more or less a one stop shop for family and friends, but I've definitely got enough deals from here to let people from here use it too.

I've used AVG and Avast both fairly extensively. Avast seems to be updated a little more often, seems to catch things while surfing a little more often, and looks a little more polished. AVG on the other hand doesn't give me that extra 20 second (or however long) hit upon bootup that Avast does.

AVG does seem to be slightly better on resources, but that being said, I'm currently running Avast, as is the wife. Mom and daughter however, are on AVG for the time being.

so, should I conclude that Kaspersky is THE best av at present? even better than McAfee, Antivir, avast, AVG or any others.
