Sam's club in Bullhead City, Arizona ... got them for $10 less than 1 week ago ($59 with no rebates). Still has 20+ v2.0 WRT54GS routers in stock.

Just a heads up for you all thinking about buying a new WRT54G and for everyone else: Here's an interesting article about the recent hardware revisions of the WRT54G.

Where's a good store (not online) to get non-V5 wrt54g? Do they even still sell the v2.2 that seems to have a lot more memory?

How's the reliability/stability of the router after the hacks? I want to use QoS.

CompUSA here (Colorado Springs) has tons of v1.1, 2.0, 3.0, etc.
I picked up a 1.1 last week.

Thanks. That's where I picked it up from. Using DD-WRT v23 and it works well. LOTS and LOTS of advanced options.

Darn linksys! They're going in the wrong direction. The device needs more power not less.

What do you mean modify? If you mean change the source code, sure, but you have to recompile it. If you mean change settings without rebooting, many you can, it just depends on what settings they are.

Sveasoft the "brand" if you will of one 3rd party firmware. Alchemy and talisman are versions. Think windows XP and windows vista. Alchemy is free, talisman requires payment of a support fee.

I use alchemy myself, I dont want to mess with something that works great for me so I haven't tried talisman or anything.

the ddwrt 3rd party firmware someone mentioned is getting increasingly popular. Someday maybe I'll check it out. Anyone know a feature list for it?

i thought you could do that with the ddwrt firmware as well. my main computer gets a static ip with dhcp enabled and all other clients get their ips from the dhcp server. unless you are talking about something else?

how did u do that? i dont see the setting

and i meant static ip linked to mac address of the pcs on the network, like a partial dhcp only type deal, not the static ip from the isp. the buggy freeman had these exceptions

DDWRT firmware has this feature ever since I can remember using it.

What firmware version are you using? They changed the location in v23 because of the new GUI, but it's still under Administration. Under Administration, go to the Services tab and look under the "DHCPd" section. There should be two buttons (Add and Remove) right under the line that says "Static Leases". Click on the Add button and it will add a new line with entry boxes for MAC, HOST and IP. Fill in the info, save settings and you're done. I like the new GUI so much better.. no more generic Linksys GUI.

That feature is also in v22 release. Was using v22 release until recently when the v23 final release came out on xmas day. But if you haven't flashed to the v23 final yet, I would recommend upgrading anyway. It's so much faster and the interface looks better too. Can't wait for the v24 release with the multipe virtual SSID's feature.

BTW in the Tampa area all i could fine where V5's, so i bought a WRT54GS V4 and loaded it with v23 final and all is working smooth. I even bridged it with my wrt54g V4 with no problems at all.

I got it from office depot for $59 after a PM to Samsclub, plus it has a $15 linksys rebate
