Alchemy v5.1 available for download here - as all of Sveasoft's firmware is subject to the GPL you are free to redistribute whatever files Sveasoft gives you, provided that you also make the source code available. Also a good read about the whole controversy surrounding Sveasoft at the moment.
Mods, if the Alchemy link is not allowed please feel free to edit it out of my post and accept my sincere apologies. Thanks!
please let us know if it works with the buffalo... I've seen those on sale all the time for cheapOriginally posted by: WilhelmII
Reading the forums on Sveasoft, it looks like the firmware will run on the Buffalo WBR2-G54. Picked one up during the outpost deal for 12.99 after rebate. At that price, its worth the risk to see if it works!
And I note that you can't even post to their forums unless you have a subscription!Originally posted by: linuxthinker
Sveasoft firmware isn't free anymore. You need to pay an annual subscription fee to get it.

Only the stable, public releases are free/GPL'd I think. The Satori line is the stable one right now and the Alchemy is the prerelease/unstable tree that is only available legally to subscribers.
For me, Iptables (firewall) was the main reason. Just being able to get in to the Linux shell is great. PPTP sever, lots of other stuff.Originally posted by: Zim

I bought a WRT54G router yesterday and am very happy with the stock Linksys firmware. I'm looking for that one killer reason to switch to the Sveasoft version but haven't found it. Other than the desire to tinker, what were the main reasons you guys switched to Sveasoft?

NO NO NO NO NO.
ALL Sveasoft firmware is under the GPL. All of it is available for free, and ALL of it is available LEGALLY. They are all modifications of GPL Linksys firmware. There is no way they can NOT be GPL'd.
Sveasoft charge $20 for their subscription, which gives access to the firmware. They're entitled to do this under the GPL. (Although they aren't distributing the source of various firmwares, which IS a GPL violation.)
However, any subscriber can re-distribute this to whoever they want, and can do so legally.
Sveasoft have attempted to stop this by not distributing the source (a GPL violation) so that people can't compile their own, known clean binaries, as well as claiming that the binaries leaked are sabotaged and phone home, fry your router, kill your dog, whatever. This is false.
MD5 sums were posted showing that the firmwares were identical, but those posts seemed to disappear (and the person who posted the md5sum found their subscription terminated.)
Alchemy and Satori are both GPL and available legally for free, whether Sveasoft like it or not.
Once again, mirrors and comments are available here

Thanks for the info.
If it is true(I believe it is), James is really a despicable figure.
I don't think he had to do it for free, but using all the illegal tactics to threaten and scare people off are really crossing the line. I have used GPL source code to customize the GPL software for my own use and really appreciate and respect the effort people put in to make it happen. I will never pass anything I customized off as my own.

just flashed to 5.3 with my v2 wrt54g and it works great. i just hope you'll be able to use the qos by port in the future instead of selecting bit-torrent or http as the service. i can't wait for captive portal also. btw did they fix the thing where qos would throw away %20 of the bandwidth?
