Do you have to reset the router to defaults after you get locked out? How is QOS performance wise? I really want to use it because between my roomate and I something is always downloading from BT and it really kills our connection if BT isn't throttled back. Once QOS is properly set up does it still cause problems besides the loss of 10% of your bandwidth?

I just put teh Satori on it, and I am a happy camper, running over the entire apartment, and my neighbours downstairs and across from me are receiving as well...so I boosted the strength, put on MAC filtering, and away we go....been beautiful since. Too bad it doesn't broadcast as strong in mixed mode....that would be nice.

What do people think of Alchemy 5.3? Stable? Is it worht the switch from Satori? Thoughts?

So, what I'm asking is, does the linksys router have the ability to acquire an IP address through the wireless antenna and then route it through to the LAN ports? If so, I'm gonna jump on this!

My firmware allows me to be a bridge or router so theoretically yes to your question. The question is whether you can configure it well enough to work.

Can somebody tell me:

I wish to replace my 802.11b wireless network and my laptop uses an Intel wireless MINIPCI
card.

Should I get the WRT54G or WRT54GS?

Is there a difference other than speedbooster?

Thanks

Anthony

Does anyone know of a good site that explains some of the settings on the Sveasoft firmware?

i turned it off, i don't think it really works right now. and no, i just reset it with the button.

as for the difference between gs and g, more memory. so in the future its possible that it can take on more features speed booster is nice too.

I bought the GS w/ speedbooster and have it running at present.

I am nervous about ruining my router by downloading sveasoft as I am
not familiar with any of the programming features.

Is it a "no brainer" or should I just leave a good thing alone.

Thanks

Anthony

No, absolutely not. Any brand of wired or wireless card should be compatible.

What do you recommend for a wireless pci card for the Wrt54gs2 , I used the previouse linksys version wmp54gs and recived a very poor signal and i was only 25 feet away, and my thinkpad with a built in wireless received a very good signal? It their something wrong with the WMP54gs2 or did I have a bad pci card?

You probably just had a bad PCI card. I have the WMP54G and it's all the way down stairs in the living room and the range is rated as EXCELLENT. The antenna on the Linksys PCI card is more powerful and larger than the standard antennas from Netgear, D-Link, and Belkin, so technically the range SHOULD be better, and it usually is in my experience.

Just ensure you're using the latest drivers from linksys.com and the antenna is screwed completely in.

G'luck!

Has anyone tried using the VPN? I wanted to go with the WRV54G but backed off after reading some less than favorable reviews.

I read thru a bunch of the related threads on the seattlewireless link, but couldn't find any from someone who had actually implemented the VPN.

Does this firmware allow you to connect to a corporate Lan, and enable wireless users the ability to logon to our Windows 2003 Active Directory Domain and access shared drives and printers and be assigned an internal IP address. Not in the 192.168.1.X range but our own internal 10.10.x range? And how easy would that be able to setup?
