I came up with this strange device when I was cutting something stubborn. I found that if you hook up 1-2 feet of 27 gauge Nichrome 60 wire to a standard 12V auto battery charger that it will power the hottest, strongest cutting wire EVER! Kit comes with 50 feet of 27 guage Nichrome 60 wire and 2 insulated handles. You provide the battery charger (about $20 at Walmart).

Just for any who may be wondering, this wire is used when making your own electric igniters for model rocket engines. I signed up for this quite a while back and yet to have received anything.

basically, it heats up to a fairly high temperature. you can cut many things by melting it.

Another use you could put this into is making your own light bulb. While of no practical use you still need it for some high school science classes and many people don't know where to get it.

Like I said ealier, the nichrome wire being given away is of the guage used for electric igniters for model rocket engines and other pyrotechnical devices that need to be electronically controlled. It is too fine to be used as a hotwire for cutting styrofoam, it will just burn apart. It could possible be used in a lightbulb if a person wanted to build one.

Yeah, I was wondering what was up with giving away NiCr wire. I saw that it was on a model rocketry realted Web site, and it made sense to me...

because I know of NiCr as it's used in integrated circuit fabrication. We thermally evaporate (or sputter) NiCr alloy in an 85-15 ratio (or something close to that) to fabricate resistors on the dc bias circuits... at least in compund semiconductors and probably chip resistors. I'd guess that silicon guys use poly-silicon when they need resistors.
