I just jumped on this one. Hopefully, it comes through. I just got Office 2003 for free from MS so this could be the icing on the cake.

gave it a shot, twice! used 2 different emails and shipping addresses. at the least, I learned some new tricks for VB. and if I actually receive the VB package, I might start using it.

Sadly, this behavior would be the reason a number of promotions like this one or similar are often ended or not fufilled for the legitimate users who do follow the terms and conditions.

Am posting said terms and conditions from the fufillment email. Some users should make note of the particular portion bolded below:

"*Offer terms and conditions

Offer good only to first party recipients of a valid redemption
code email. Offer is non-transferable and the redemption code
is for one use only, limit of one gift per person.
Product provided
is strictly Not-For-Resale. This offer is valid in the 50
United States, the District of Columbia, all U.S. military bases
that contain valid APO/FPO addresses, and Canada. Please allow
4 - 6 weeks for shipment. Offer good only while supplies last, or
until September 30, 2004. Microsoft is not responsible for lost,
late, mutilated, stolen, misdirected, or undelivered mail.

Void where prohibited. "

You have been a dweller here long enough to know that is very rude of you.

At the bottom of the page is this:

* Offer good only to first party recipients of a valid redemption code email. Offer is non-transferable and the redemption code is for one use only, limit of one gift per person. Product provided is strictly Not-For-Resale. This offer is valid in the 50 United States, the District of Columbia, all U.S. military bases that contain valid APO/FPO addresses, and Canada. One time use redemption code. You may not be seeing this one.

There are two movies but there are many parts in the movies that are broken down by subject. Look at the link again and then select a topic.

Well, I for one AM a VB developer, and have been wanting to switch to the .Net platform for over a year now, but was concerned about converting my existing applications, and of the learning curve.

This "Movies" thing was just the ticket for me to learn some of the differences safely. If the standard version is workable, my office will be getting the more expensive one, and if it were not for Anantech, NONE of this would be occurring, so thank you Anandech.

Now I am just hoping that they still have one left for me to really use after all of those people who don't really need it have gone in several times !!!

I maybe wrong but I don't think the Standard version's compiler can do optimizations. But it is free so not much you can say.

You're not likely to learn much C and C++ with Visual Basic .NET. You CAN compile Visual C++ .NET code with the free compiler in the .NET framework, but I don't believe this product (Visual Basic .NET) will provide a C++-based IDE natively.

Visual Basic .NET will allow you to build .NET-based programs. If you've tried Visual Basic in the past and were disappointed with its kludgy object implementation and single-threaded nature, VB.NET is vastly superior. Give it a try - I like it a lot.

So do you mean that it can't optimize code for certain products (i.e., SEE, 3DNow!, etc.) or just cleaning up code in general?

Excellent find though, I'm in for one.

I'm in...my organisation is almost definitely going to be able to make use of this, and may be considering a purchase sometime in the near future.

Thanks!

Dave.

Pretty much the main difference between VB.Net Standard and the VB that comes with Visual Studio Pro, is that VB Standard does not have the wizards and such for the different project type. Like Windows Controls, Class Modules, ect.. I do believe is still contains the wizard for Windows Forms application projects. And a couple others. But it is pretty easy to add the scripts to make Window Controls and other type of projects just like the professional version. I do not remember all of the main differences. I do know that there is info on the exact differences at the msdn website. I have the 2002 Visual Studio.NEt. I went ahead and signed up for this one since it is the 2003 version. Although there are only like 2 or 3 code changes, and other minor differences. You can even modify the 2003 projects to run and work with 2002 VB.Net. Also, VB 2003 works with the .Net Framework 1.1. The 2002 version runs on the 1.0 version.

Uh..... no you can't. Visual Basic .NET lets you develop in Visual Basic (.NET). To learn C or C++, get a good book. It'll tell you how to get a compiler/IDE. It might even come with one on disc.

HI

I bought Visual Basic 5.0 professional quite some time ago. I was thinking about doing a couple of things and now need VB. Can I do anything with 5.0 or would I be better off going for the .Net 2003 standard? Is .Net 2003 a download or do they ship it on CD?

thanks

Sterling
