The National Rifle Association is offering free one-year memberships to all troops on active duty as a token of appreciation for their service.

The promotion, which began earlier this month, is open to full-time service members and reservists called up to active duty. A membership usually costs $35. Troops who sign up for the membership will be asked for their name, address, rank and e-mail address, but not Social Security or credit card information.

They will have to provide additional personal information if they decide to renew their membership next year. The membership also comes with a free subscription to one of the organization?s three magazines: American Hunter, American Rifleman, or America's First Freedom.

I am locking this thread because it turned into a total pissing match, which does not belong in HD. Take it to P&N if you want this kind of thread.

ShotgunSteven, you are more than welcome to start a new thread on this deal. If it starts going the way this one has, let us know and vacations will be issued to those who fail to understand the HD rule of " No thread crapping. If the subject matter of a deal does not interest you, do not post negative comments about it, or about other members, in the thread".

not one that fights the political war here at home - look up h.r. 1022 if you want to see what i am talking about - basically a new assault weapons ban that basically bans all firearms....

One good thing about this forum is you tend to get more intelligent people posting here, and the more intelligent people are pro gun.

Oh please... The majority of the pro gun crowd are mouth breathing, inbred nascar loving hicks. I'm not anti gun, I own some myself.

I love pulling this link out.

Something you all are missing here... if the troops are on active duty, then how can they take advantage of this offer?

Seems kind of contradictory...

Looks reasonable to me. NRA is a bunch of nuts anyhow.

considering you live in Kalifornia, you are not able to enjoy the fun of firearms as you live in one of the worst states in the u.s. for gun control, probably right behind d.c.. how can you read that and say it is reasonable? the problem with the bill is all the referencing and the intrepretation - you want the politicians to intrepret this stufff???

????

It is a membership. They can join and be part of the NRA anywhere in the world. Oh, BTW, active duty does not mean overseas.

I think I answered what you were getting at.

Why would you even have to say this? This very comment proves the opposing viewpoint. Keep your infantile insults to yourself.

I guess everybody in Canada, the UK, and a few dozen other "civilized" countries must be stupid. Shucks, that would include me too.

Guns don't kill people. Stupid people with guns kill people. I don't think we'll ever get rid of stupid people, so where does that leave us?

Well, laws are passed by a relative few...Countries with strict gun laws have the higher gun crime. Full blown police states may have low gun crime, and low crime overall, but I'll pass on that form of government.

also look at washington d.c. for crime statistics in their near police, no gun state.

history has shown us what an unarmed popualation is in for - the jews in europe in the wwII era, china, russia etc. you can find a lot of information here, Jews fo the Preservation of Firearms Ownership, JFPO, i would say the jewish people know, as does the world at their expense what an unarmed population has dealt with.

some of our "leaders" seem to want this for our very country....here is a link to see what reps are supporting this new anti-gun bill
