So you will get Vista and the key plus Office 2007 <full version> with key if you go to the event?

I registered and not sure if it worth to take a day off from work and drive 3 hrs. TIA.

You'll get a Vista Preview disk (PRE-RTM, not final) with key only if you're going to the 'New Day' event. You don't get this disk if you're going to the 'Across America' event.

Is there much difference between the two? Not trying to be flip, I honestly haven't a clue.

I went tp the event and received a copy and am currently running it and am curious what I am missing with this version over the final one.

Thanks

Hmm... I'm kinda curious myself.

I remember reading in this thread somewhere that the pre-RTM version doesn't have all the sounds and chimes and such.

Anything else different between them?

Goin to the King of Prussia event on Thursday (weather permitting). This should make for a hairy drive at least with a winter storm warning in effect .. gotta work and sweat for those freebies these days.

I just used a Final disc along with the key they provided and it registered just fine. Try that and you won't have to wonder about what you are missing out on.

Does anyone know how to find out if the Detroit event will be cancelled tomorrow? Hate to drive thru the blizzard for nothing!

And where might I find this final disc... without having to buy it? Pirate Bay, perhaps?

In my case, one option I had was that at work they had it out on the LAN w/o a serial key. I was bummed until I had heard of rumors that the pre-release key worked with the final build! It will at least hold me over until I get my upgrade edition in the mail (taking forever!!! I would NEVER do the mail in upgrade option again!!!)

I'm set to go to the Detroit "New Day" event tomorrow, but it specifically said that it was only a 180-day trial. What's this about people installing vista without that time limitation? That it works for the Vista Ultimate RTM?

I will, or planning to, go to the New Dayy event. What is PRE RTM disc? What are the differences between it and final version? Or is it more like Beta/pre release stuffs?

I still have a factory sealed Office 2003 from the last event <local>. If I can have Vista, then I will more than likely to go instead of just Office 2007.

Went to the Houston one. Keynote speaker droned on a bit, Tech guy was nervous and spoke quickly. Pretty crowded overall. The sessions ran until 3:30 but they let us pick up our software at noon when lunch started, I just left after that. It was a "New Day" event so I picked up a Vista Launch Preview. There was no mention that it was even included by any of the speakers. The phamplet it comes in says nothing about a time restriction. Serial # is good for "32-bit version of Windows Vista Ultimate included in this kit".
The DVD is labeled, "Windows Vista Ultimate Pre-release" Part No. 099-94361 32-bit English.

With the big crowds and them trying to rush people through the line it looked pretty easy to end up with multiple copies of anything you wanted. There were lots of vendors there looking to scan you badge (get your info and spam you) and giving away free junk. Not much worth picking up.

Hoped to find a chair with an envelope under it for the keynote speech, but the couple rows that I could inconspicuously search didn't have anything. They gave away 3 Treo 750s instead of Zune's here. If I knew it was the Treo I would have searched even harder.

Has anyone installed the prelease with the included key and then tried to use the key with their store bought final release?

I have not been to the event ... scheduled for March 1 in LI, NY
As to your query about the Serial for Vista the way I read it
in MKDRUM's post is that the code is Fully Valid for a 32 Bit
Version of Vista Ultimate .. so if you can get a copy of the
Ultimate RTM the code should Work Fine with no restrictions.

If I get Vista at my event, I will ask the MS folks about it.

I too was at the Houston event. When I got home I plugged the Vista "Eval Key" into my RTM Vista Ultimate (unactivated upon install -- 13 days remaining) and voila, my copy of Windows Vista Ultimate was activated

A fully functional copy of Office 2007 and Vista Ultimate ... not bad for a morning's time.

And to be greedy I hope it's a full retail "key"!

Darn, was late for the event in Sac by 25mins and it's full. Someone on the wait list bumped my pre-registration. Oh well.

went to the sac event myself

was there 30 minutes before the start and there were a few people there
not as jam packed as i thought it would be

it wasn't until the speaker started that it was really packed

got the cd key and the bag with the minor goodies in it

overall i liked their presentation, very interesting stuff to say the least
one guy got a technet subscription which allows him to download any ms software he wants

I was at Sac too. People asked pretty good questions overall. And, ya, was surprised about some of the features especially BDD.

I really wish he'd have covered Exchange more as he hinted at some cool stuff.

Were about, what 300 people there or so? I got in the registration line about 6 minutes before it started and was registered with about 1 minute to spare.

Hmm it's kind of annoying that they didn't give out the Vista discs at all at
the 'Across America' events, but rather only the few 'New Day' ones.
They're both "all day" events so I can't think of a good reason to differentiate them
on the basis of scope. They certainly could have made it the same for both.
Oh well, at least I got Office out of the M.S.A.A. event I spent the day at.

I attended the event in Greensboro today. I only attended the afternoon sessions since I was not able to preregister for the morning ones. The people did not give out any Vista software, only office 2007 included with groove 2007. I am not particularly impressed with the new features of office and will probably have to do more reading on it to become more impressed I suppose. It did include promotional codes for both office and groove. If you are interested in the software just PM me with a reasonable offer and I will gladly mail it to you!

I thought I recognized you guiys in Sac this morning...
I attended the small business track, (me is not geeky enough for most of the rest), and got the cutsey black bag full-o-goodies, and a t-shirt that'll NEVER fit my fat ass...
Overall, not a bad presentation. Some old guy (no, not me) raised hell about the Office disk being given out wasn't a full retail version, but instead, a one-time install, which if it crashes, or you reformat, is no longer valid. DEMANDED that everyone attending be given a fully licenced copy...
The presenter said he'd do what he could...
In a way, the guy was right...no where in any of the e-mails or on the webpage where you register does it tell you that little tidbit...which, if true, sux, because I usually reformat annually (if not more often)

I've never heard that the Office and Groove 2007 keys were not fully licensed. It is a fully legitimate license. Once activated, you probably have to re-activate with Microsoft if your system configuration changes.
