Thanks; I think I'm registered, at least if it's the same event!
Of course their WWW site isn't working for me, DOH.

a) Could someone confirm the name(s) of the actual events here?
I'm a little confused since sometimes I see "Ready For A New Day" launch events,
other times I see "Microsoft Across America" events, and others seem to be
called different names... are they all the same event with different
names and web sites?

b) Is there a "terms and conditions" visible where it would show if there are
eligibility limitations on being able to get in on the MS Office giveaway? What does it say?

c) Is there / was there ever a EULA permission to use the same MS Office copy
on your personal Desktop & Laptop (non-simultaneous / non-multi-user scenario,
just one user going between office desk & road)?

I think a fairly large percentage of us are in IT.

Just one. In the NYC event (at the Waldorf Astoria hotel) they say to get there before 7:45 (starts at 8AM) or you could lose your space. They also said there would be some kind of refreshments/food.

From the site:

Note to Government Employees Only:

Ready for a New Day: Launch Tour 2007 is a Microsoft Product launch event generally open to the public. There will be items of value available at no charge for attendees of this event, including but not limited to software, personal use items (for example, pens), and meals. Prior to registering for this event, you should consult with your agency/institution counsel or ethics officer about attending this event and what items, if any, you may accept. Microsoft intends for the use of any such items to comply with applicable federal, state and local government gift and ethics rules.

...so I think I'm going to sign up.

don't forget to use the drop down boxes for special needs before confirming...like Halal or Kosher food. That is pretty cool of MS to offer, wonder if they will actually follow through with it.

now where is the event for the free copy of vista ultimate hmmmm. .

This should have been the free Vista promotional tour. There are currently multiple MS tours avaliable:

Ready for a New Day is the large one, but this would be the first time MS did not give away the OS at one of their promotional events. They obviously have had other giveaways and events for a free copy of Vista, but now it looks like I will have two copies of Office 2007.

It includes Outlook, but a version with the contact manager. What's very cool with this version of Office is you can integrate Outlook with Access so that when you send out emails asking for information and the person you sent it to replies with that information, it can get processed automatically and put into an Access data base (which, of course, can then be exported into an Excel file). I've been playing with the Office 2007 beta and I like it a lot.

/sigh

Microsoft never has these promo's in Alaska. Getting airfair to Seattle and back will cost more then buying the retail version when they are launched. Anybody wanna have a friend attend with them and send me a set

They do have promos where you do thing online only and don't have to "attend" at a specific location. They had a Vista/Office 2007 promo a month or so ago that was a major thread on this forum. Happens every so often. Hope you find someone in any case.

By the time I seen it they were sold out. I seen it just after 2 or 3 days the thread was made. I dont read the hot deals forums much unless I am in the market to buy something or a magazine subscription is about to expire. hehe

Do you have to have any IT background to go to these events other than posting on AT? I'm not an IT person but would love to get a copy of the software by going to the event!

I don't see anything in the fine print about requiring an IT background, but it looks like the Ready for a New Day event seems to focus on IT stuff and the Across America event has offerings for both small business and IT.

So I signed up for one but it's confusing, they offer 2 blocks but say you need 3 launch events, do you get this for just 1 event?

I don't see where you need three events. It says you get the PIN at the end of the event, which seems like the four-hour block you sign up for. I've been to one of these before (at XP's launch) and we just sat there for a little while while they showed us all the cool features, then we got in a line and they handed us our goodie bag on the way out. It was zero hassle and I'm still using my copy of XP 5.5 years later.

Signed up for the Houston one. There were two tracks. One for IT Pros & Developers and another for Technology Decision Makers. The TDM session ended at 12:30pm with optional sessions afterward, but the other tracks didn't end until 3:30pm. I signed up for the TDM one, hopefully I don't have to hang around until 3:30 for the giveaways.
