I wanted to but weather was miserable/roads were bad. I wasnt about to try and get there. I wonder if it was delayed at all - those rounds around there are terrible on a good day.

just getting home from it now......roads were fine.

it was a good event, learned a few things.

best part of it was, i won a treo! i first sat down in the middle left, i couldnt see ****** so when they removed some of the reserved signs from the front rows i ran over. then a few guys sat next to me so i moved over a seat. then some more came on the other side forcing me back over. they told us to look, i didnt even look at first. everyone was done looking but something told me to look, so i did and i felt the ticket!

as far as office only being a one time thing, does 2007 need internet access? just unplug your modem, install it and dont register it and bam!

cant wait to see if the vista key will work with a retail copy

I attended the Albany, NY event (coming from amsterdam). Roads were a mess but I ended up getting there about 7:55am, No lines at the registration tables IT pro track was about 1/2 full but slowly filled up, about midway through it was 3/4 full and by the end it was full. So really not that full but I only attended the morning session.

Oh, and shhhh....

After you activated the one on the second desktop have you tried to do an office update to see if it lets you do it on both desktops?

The complete Office License terms can be read or printed (20 pages) from anywhere within Office: Click the big round Office button, select "<product> Options", then go to "Resources", click "About <product>. There you will see a familiar dialog to "View the Microsoft Software License Terms".

The key from the Launch Kit is for a RETAIL license. As noted in the terms, that means:
  • You may install and use Office on one device. The "licensed" device may be one hardware partition or blade.
  • You may install another copy on a portable device for use by the single primary user of the licensed device
Translation: You may install office on a desktop computer and on a laptop if the primary user is the same for the two machines.

The new activation server for Office 2007 does enforce restrictions about moving the software around more stringently than did the old one. If something happens and you have to replace either machine, you will have to call Microsoft to get a replacement key.

Thanks Athena,

I didn't mention but when I asked the presenter about the single installation, I specifically said, "You mean I can't install it on a Desktop and a Laptop?" and she said "Yes, you cannot do that."

But you know, I think others posted here and quoted a single installation somewhere...

Hi Folks - do the two Office 07 download .exe files create an ISO or do they just directly install Office?

Thanks!

they are executable files. The first file contains the main office 2007 pro components, the second one has the business contact manager stuff.

You should be able to make an .ISO using Power ISO or Nero
That is what I will do when I download my copies
I do not like directly installing a big program from the hard drive
From the CD/DVD Drive is the better choice and you then have
the program on a relatively safe media.

I saw a review online that listed a few components of the 2nd 'disc' / '.exe' file as being
part of Office Pro 2007, so apparently we're licensed to use not just Business Contact
Manager for Outlook but also several or all of the other programs in the 2nd 'disc' / '.exe'.

Also here's what's worked for me:
1) Put the original X12-30196.exe and X13-40150.exe files you've downloaded into
a directory that you'll backup to DVD.

2) Create subdirectories e.g. 'cd1' 'cd2'

3) From the command line, change directory to the cd1 directory you've just created,
then run the command
X12-30196.exe /extract
and if it asks for a target directory to extract the files into, pick the 'cd1' directory you've
just created.

4) From the command line, change directory to the cd2 directory you've just created,
then run the command
X13-40150.exe /extract
and if it asks for a target directory to extract the files into, pick the 'cd2' directory you've
just created.

5) Then just burn the original X12-30196.exe, X13-40150.exe, and your two directories
'cd1' and 'cd2' with the extracted files from them onto a DVD and you'll have
a good backup of the original files as well as being all set to
install from the setup programs in the disc's 'cd1' and 'cd2' directories.

Howto: Make an Office 2007 CD

Rename them Office1.exe and Office2.exe

Click Start, then Run and type:

X:\Office1.exe /extract

(X:\) is the path where you are keeping the file.

A dialog box pops up and ask where you want to extract the files to.

Damn, beaten by Quix ....

You can just burn the 2 files onto a cd or dvd and run them from the disk. Worked fine for me.

I downloaded them and isntalled them on my desktop yesterday with only 1 or 2 problems...First, in my computer science class, we're studying Office 2003, and all our assignments are based on that software, so I needed to keep my Office XP Professional...Called Microsoft, and they told me how to do that...only it didn't quite work as advertised...Next, during the validation process, Microsoft decided my XP wasn't a legal version... so I called them...and sure enough, according to their info, my copy is a burned one...:brokenheart: it came with a used computer I bought a few years ago, and I guess I should have questioned the legality, since it came w/o the certificate of authenticity...and the code written on a piece of paper... but I've used it for a long time, and upgraded it, had the authenticity verified before with no issues...

Dammit, that means I'll have to rely on my old Office 97 software from Gateway...not exactly Office 2003, but more similar than Office 2007.
On a different note, I LIKE the look and functionality of the new software, but there is a slight learning curve, as far as the different toolbars and such...

are they checking IDs at the door? I'm registered, and I'm over 18, but I don't have a driver's license.

I am so annoyed about missing the registration. I emailed them asking about a wait list for the seattle event (has been full since I first checked on Feb 1). I just bought a new laptop for my wife (X60s) and now I need a new office copy...

Just get home from 3 hrs drive for the Dallas event. I won the Street and Map with GPS. There was a guy won TWICE <big ticket items too>.

They checked registration and ID at the door. Breakfast was meh, typical continential stuffs. Lunch was good. You don't have to stay for the whole event to get the free stuffs from MS.

I turned in the eval after lunch, around 12:30 p.m., hung out for a while then head out. Not bad at all.

BTW, the keynote speaker looked and acted just like Bill Gate, no kidding.
