I went to the Cromwell, CT event today. My friend and I arrive 30 mins late. The woman tells us we can't go in because the rooms are filled due to fire laws. But she did say she can give us our software and goodies bag now. In and out in 4 mins with Office 2007!! Sweet!

I signed up for the waiting list and within an hour received an email saying I had been changed to a confirmed registration, score! I guess it should be interesting since Gates is giving the keynote address. I just hate having to get up so freaking early, 7am registration sucks!

I know they called me TWICE, prior to the Cromwell, CT event, making sure I was still coming(the 2 people I was going with ended up cancelling due to work conflicts), so they are finding open spots for waiting list people.

I dunno what session you went to, but I was in the afternoon Developer's session and a guy came in a couple times, checking to see what empty seats were left, so they could pack it and make sure they were going against the fire laws.

I know what you mean about the 7AM reg time .. I live in NJ and will be going
to Hauppauge, NY on Mar 1 ... it is about a 75 Mile Drive .. so that means I need
to leave at 5:30AM to allow enough time .. I usually sleep in until 8AM

I was in the Executive IT Track, my friend was in the Developer Track. But when we got there, the woman just said we couldn't go in. When she said she would give us our software right then and there, we did not complian the least bit.

Thankfully the Seattle one is not that far away from me (~20 miles) and my wife got in as well so we can keep each other awake. I can't wait to hear what Gates has to say. My wife is an expert at oral presentations so I'm curious to hear how she rates his talk

Well, just left the seattle event. My wife had to leave after the keynote and after doing some very successful pleading got them to give her to software early. They kept telling her and others "not until 2:30". I was able to convince them as well to give it up early though they remembered my wife and went easy on me.

Being a "new day" event they gave us the beta Vista's as well. I was reading these are full, ultimate keys and that any vista DVD will give you the ultimate install. Does this mean I get get a $20 copy of vista home upgrade (through the ms employee store) and use that disc to install ultimate? Or do I need an ultimate specific disc? It looks like you can use some of their free enterpirse tools (BDD or DBB something) to create an ultimate iso and burn additonal copies with a single disc... kinda cool

Anyway, thanks for the link, the event was fun.

Also went to Seattle event. Managed to sit in the 2nd row during the keynote. Probably the closest I'll ever be to the richest man in the world!

It was cool seeing Gates present, but he isn't as charismatic/exciting as other execs I've seen (ie Balmer).

I do have my Vista key and now just need to figure out how I'm going to get media to do the install. I'm currently downloading the 2 Office files as well, but won't bother installing till I get Vista on my laptop.

Managed a couple decent freebies from the expo hall. The retractable network cable from Symantec, water bottle from Robert Half Staffing, plush Catbert doll, etc. But I didn't bother getting scanned at every booth just to get a handfull of pens.

Most interesting to me about Vista is the image creation/deployment tools included. Will definitely check that out more in-depth once I'm good to go.

Good event, great freebies, and I'm glad I went!

Your lucky dude, I only got the freaking sally doll. I wanted catbert or the pointy-haird boss . I am also looking for the media for vista. I'll buy a copy of the home if it truely is the full ultimate copy and the key is what determines the install. My wife found the guy before gates (the west region dude) to be a better presenter. I dunno, I fell asleep during most of it. I did go to the desktop deployment first break-away and found it very informative. It's pretty cool how much customizability you can do with your image.

Well, I grabbed mine when the box full of them was more in front of their booth and wide open. People were pretty much just grabbing the one they wanted. I was going to try and swing by a couple more times to get a couple more of the other toons, but they had moved it right next to the booth, behind the "guy". Not being a Dilbert follower, I didn't find it necessary to listen and get scanned for another one.

Are they giving any software out at the Across America events? It says they are not from what I read on the webpage, but it seems some people mentioned they had received something.

MS Office Professional 2007, MS Groove 2007 are given out at MSAA events;
BUT NOT the Vista "RC1" "trial" for some inexplicable reason. (

I used the Anytime Upgrade DVD with my Vista key I got at the Dallas launch day and it wont work. I tried a full install booting from the Anytime Upgrade DVD that it could not expand a file error code 0x80070017. Anyone got the same issue.

I was at the Dallas launch too and they only gave out a full key for the Office 2007 and groove. The bag did have a Vista eval copy in it but it did not have a full key for it, just the evaluation. The one for Office 2007 worked great.

Yeah, other people earlier in the thread have had luck using that key on a retail version of Vista for full access. That's what we're talking about.

whatever you guys do, NEVER sign up for the Public Sector track.. even though I'm a contractor, and not a Government employee, they still refused to give me the grab bag and software at the event in Bethesda, MD. (Government employees cant take gifts).

I was told to email the marketing folks and make my case. After doing so, they finally agreed to send me the bag and software, but God only knows if it will ever show up...

Then again, I made nice with the head of marketing while I was at the event, and she gave me her card and told me to email her if the software never shows up... hopefully I wont need to go that far.

The sad fact is that I could have signed up for any of the tracks, but chose Public Sector because it was the most applicable to the type of consulting I do... bah... my mistake.

ps: I didnt learn a damn thing that hasnt already been written in every magazine on the planet!

Too late now...but you can sign up for any track but still attend any track you want. They don't take attendance / limit people, etc.
