Firefox has tabbed browsing. It can save your session with a plugin too.

But anyway, time for me to try Opera again. I haven't used it since version 6 or so.

I was going to say that I never used Opera before, but I remember trying their free version several years ago. Looks good so far. Actually it's great, seeing as I got a $39 piece of software for FREE!!

They don't, it just has a simple banner ad that is removed when you register it. I finally registered it a few months ago after using it for the last 4 years, and even Firefox can't steal me away from it.

I hear people raving about the tabbed browsing, but FF has it too and someone mentioned saved sessions which I guess is also available with an FF plugin. Is there any major difference betweem the 2...sort of how there's a difference between FF & IE? If it's just a preference thing and no added functionality, then I wont bother changing.

I'm confused. One can download Opera for free at Download.com. What is the upside to the German offering??? Registration costs something???

Edit: there also appears to be a java version for free??? Firefox is great. Always looking for good new software. Tried Opera many years ago when it was hailed as the "paired-down, speediest" browser, but went back to Netscape at the time.

Both FF and Opera have tabbed browsing by default. The saved session thing though is default in Opera but in FF you have to download one of several extensions(aka plugins) like Session Saver to get the same functionality. Not a big deal but you have both FF and Opera fanboys out to kill each other over miniscule differences like FF not having it by default and Opera having it by default and similar crap. Both are good browsers, its just some people like having everything included by default and some like a barebones setup where any unneeded things are not installed which makes for a cleaner look and feel.

ive been using opera since version 6 and have LOVED every minute of it. no other browser i used can compare. i have FF too, but it just doesn't have the same nice 'feel' as opera does. plus mouse gestures in opera seem to work more smoothly than in FF. thanks OP for this HOT DEAL!

Yeah, although I'm just glad Opera 8 finally launched today. It's been on their home page, "Opera 8 launching soon!" for the past 2 weeks.

You can download a free version that is ad supported. If you "buy" a registration, it will remove the ad banners.

According to their website, Opera 7 codes will work with 8. Mine did.

One advantage for me using Opera is that it's more responsive, for example when I try to save pictures I usually get the save dialog box much faster in Opera than in FF.

My current problem with Opera is that a few months ago it started to seg fault for me several times per day, and I can't seem to find the problem. Running it from commandline doesn't seem to get any error messages either.
