Just one warning, I used to get all the free pallets, and chop them up for cheap firewood. However, I read that pallets are treated with that arsenic based compound that prevents termites and rot and becomes airborn when burning.

I'm guessing these are not plastic because thats just common sense and nor are they made by CHEP. There is a return deposit on most pallets so more than likely these are just plain wooden pallets in ok condition. I would not recommend using them for firewood.

broadway - depends on what you put on there. I've seen some pallets with probably several thousand lbs of furniture on it and they held up fine, mostly because the weight was spread evenly throughout the whole pallet. (Imagine the lying on a bed of nails/eggs thing) If you put something like olympic plates or something heavy but concentrated in a small package, don't expect to put too much on before it snaps.

we load em heavy all the time

water softner salt is 40-50lbs a bag

using 7 bags per layer *15 layers=4200-5250, that ain't nothing though compared to food pallets stacked 8ft high

Also, gallons of water are a heavy mofo, laundry detergent, dog food, and canned food.

Will one of these fit in my Mid-Tower ATX case? How should I position it to best help with airflow?

get lots of them, i mean alot. and make one huge bonfire big enough to warm you from a far enough distance that you can't smell the fumes. it'll be great right up till the fire trucks. it would probably be easiest to do this at the pickup site to cut down on transportation troubles. what kinda range you think those fumes have?

Pallets are great if you store stuff in the garage. Stick your cardboard boxes of stuff on the pallet instead of directly on the floor, to protect your stuff from water (left a hose on for too long? Roof have a minor leak? Flash flood? etc.)

/**********UPDATE*****************/

I rushed over to Meeks immediatly after the post. It ended up being worth the 2+ hour drive. They had plenty of pallets, and i loaded em into my big pickup. Don't worry, I left some for u all. Thanks for the deal Ned!

Why not just look around town for pallets. Most any large size company will have pallets. Of course, many are returned for credit, but once you find a source, it's like milking a cow. My local newspaper company gives them away free. Many grocery stores have extras, as well as, home improvement warehouses, fertilizer dealerships, nurseries, etc.

Nothing beat the site of a Fred Sanford (a homeboy) wannabe, a load of wood pallet stacked to the high heaven in the back of an old rusted polluting pick-up truck, held down with old ropes, and swaying in the wind on Missouri potholed highways.

Now if you are a teacher who handy working with particle board material, then contact O'Sullivan. I been told the company will allow you to come to the Lomar manufacturing plant and load up your trailer for free. I wouldn't recommand burning that stuff either.
