Thanks for the post. I am going to evaluate this at home, of course, but may recommend it to the rest of the Information Security department here at work if it's good.

Just a warning:

"As a condition of this offer, I agree to receive educational and promotional updates from Panda Software. "

I dunno if you can unsubscribe afterwards.

That's why you never, never, ever use your real email/contact/address info on these forms!

I use their global AV for fileservers and workstations on my LAN at work (about 55 nodes).Been working well for past year (just signed on for another 3 years of updates). NOT 1 virus has gone thru since I implemented it and they have updates just about every single day.
I am gonna sign up for the free stuff for home, hehehehe!

Tonix, is that a version that gives you a year of updates? Download.com has had both the Platinum and Titanium versions of Panda available for a long time, but neither will give you any updates. Panda requires a username and password to login and update.

Here's the page on the offer that describes how to register for updates: panda says thanks

PCMagazine rated Panda #1 out of all AV programs around December of 2001. It slipped a bit in the rankings the next year, but was still highly rated. Norton came in first in 2002, so if you have access to it, you might want to stick with that. Norton is noted for using low system resources if monitoring is left on, which I like.

OK, one more addendum. You have to sign up with the Panda at the link in Wildcats' post. They email you a registration code, which you will then enter from within the AV program. Panda then emails you a username and password, which entitles you to free updates as long as you "qualify."

Without the signup procedure, no updates.

My spammail address has already received three emails in the last 10 minutes, none in the few days before that, so prepare to be saturation-bombed with spam if you sign up for this.

Good deal...takes about 12 hours for the processing and email to go back and forth and to finally get your username/password for updates.

I called and was told that it is free for one year. If you recommend the software to your company and they buy it, you get it free for longer. Looks like one year of Panda, and back to AVG and ZoneAlarm.

Isn't Panda the company that was linked to the Church of Scientology?
I don't particularly want to get spam from Waco, Texas. Or am I wrong regarding Panda? Anyone know?

I highly doubt it considering they are HQ'd in Spain and I think their US presence is in Cali.

The only spam I have received so far from signing up for it, is some type of Windows/Networking newsletter they put out about vulnerabilities (could also be their newsletter Oxygen, but I subscribe to that anyway) so not sure if they auto sending out that too.

I don't think that I'd take too much stock in an article from Mr. John Leyden at The Register. Instead of being afraid of the Church of Scientology, he should be afraid of the Catholic church and its $$ and influence (or Islam and its psychcos).

I have to admit, this Scientology stuff looks interesting. At least they don't spend their time bombing innocent people or molesting children.
Church of Scientology

Religeon: The root of all hatred and evil. How ironic.

I use Symatec AV that I get "free" each year at tax time, but here's the link to the Panda AV.

WARNING-
I downloaded the file from Panda, but upon extraction - Norton Corperate Antivirus detected a virus in my temp file - the same location WInZip extracted to! Coincidence - probably.

Make sure you give your real email or else you won't recieve a software lisense. You can also ask for more lisences.

Good move.
