Maple Story is pretty fun. Its a free MMORPG thats still in beta though. Think of it as a side-scrolling Diablo II.

Great old games include:

Any TSR, Inc. AD&D game, especially the famous gold box sets...my faves are Pools of Radiance, Curse of the Azure Bonds, and Death Knights of Krynn...but there are around 10-12 of these games if I remember correctly

Any King's Quest

Ultima 3 (Exodus) & 4 (Quest of the Avatar) kept me busy for months when I was younger

Bard's Tale 3 was another great game

Wasteland is perfect for those sci-fi fans, it was an RPG set in a post-apocolyptic Earth...one of the best unknown games of the 80's

Shadowrun was a Genesis game that can be found as a ROM now based on a pen & paper RPG...it is still alot of fun now as the hacking system was extrememly innovative for when it was released

^^^ Nice link HB, marathon rocks... since I grew up with a mac, marathon was my fps as a kid. I found it and still find it to be a lot better than doom IMhO.

As far as my contribution to the thread, Realmz is a damned good single player rpg for both mac and windows... The link says it's a demo, but I'm pretty sure it's the full game... at least that's what I've read and experienced.

BTW, this thread kicks :heart: (that's an ass!)

One game I was surprised that was not mentioned is "The Battle for Wesnoth"

The Battle for Wesnoth is a turn-based strategy game with a fantasy theme.

Build your army, selecting, from one mission to the next one, your most experienced fighters. Fighters you did recruit among a great number of units, offering various strategic strengths and weaknesses on different terrains and against different opponents.

It's an open source game that is improved fairly often. Additional campaigns are always being offered by others on the site forum or campaign DL page. It also has three levels of difficulty so if you replay it is not ever the same.

One other aspect I am impressed with is that they have created somewhat a history timeline with their campaigns so it keeps a thread of recognition from one campaign to another as well as characters and their offspring and/or forefathers.

A genuinely superb game.
