So i googled high and low for a free legit pc-to-phone calling service and have finally found it. The company is icall.com. You sign up to download their little prog which allows u to call anywhere in the US (not sure about internationally) and u can even receive calls too. The service isn't all that reliable though, as the prog is buggy and sometimes your call doesn't go through. But the call quality is excellent (8/10, i'd say) and they're always improving service, plus they have a user forum. So all-in-all i'd say it's a neat little service that can't be beat for it being totally free.

And no i'm not a spokesman for them nor is this spam! :|, I'm just letting those of u who wanted to know know, as there are quite a few archived threads here asking for this.

PS: Don't be fooled by the site's sign-up-and get-a-free-Ipod ad. It's really just a contest they enter u in to win one.

Here's a free legit PC to phone service. Skype
I am not threadcrapping but giving you an alternative since you said you were googling high and low for a free service. I am surprised you didn't find skype on a google search. I guess they're not big enough yet.

The PC-to-phone calls are completelty free in the US, until the end of the year and free anywhere in the world PC-to-PC. You mentioned that The service isn't all that reliable though, as the prog is buggy and sometimes your call doesn't go through, so you should do yourself a favor and try out Skype. They are very reliable and they're software isn't buggy at all. I've used it many times and I would give it a 10/10 for clarity and reliability.

I definetely would not give the Skype phone service a 10/10... I've had times when they are 10/10 in terms of clarity, but I've called other times at I get an echo of my voice as well as a delay. I know it's not my internet connection since I tried doing a bandwidth test right after the call and got my regular 6mbps down and 768kbps up.

Also, while I haven't tried this other service it sounds like you can receive calls from a telephone as well, while with Skype you can't so that could be another major difference.

Curious. You know I actually came across the name Skype a few times in my google searches but the results never stated that they provide free pc-to-phone service. And nobody here ever mentioned them either in the search threads i read for free pc-to-phone service.

But anyway yeah i'll definitely give them a try. They do seem better than icall.

I have been using skype for free and been happy with it (would not say 10/10 tho)

I know that skype will have to go back to being a pay service soon. So its good to have more than 1 of these services out there.

I've been using the heck out of Skype, fo r a while now , and it's great.
BUt in a few months it won't be free anymore, :disgust:

So, I guess this this is a great time to start using this and see how well it works.

Thanks

Skype is free to the US and Canada until the end of the year. They were bought by E-Bay and they are promo-ing it. There is talk that E-bay traders will be free calls past the end of the year.

In response- VOIPBUSTER has made US and UK calls, LAND and MOBILE, free till the end of the year. http:\\www.voipbuster.com The quality is very good. They also have a dialback service.

Jahjah is a "dialback" service. It calls you and calls the other party and connects over the internet using your own phone. Your phone rings, you pick it up and you hear the other parties phone ringing. If they answer your connected. You need a computer internet connection to place the call though. Voipbuster has the same thing.
Old time dialback systems you dailed a code and the number you wanted to call and hung up. Your phone would ring and....
It was cheaper because of where the call "originated".

I have skype and now this. Yes the program is buggy and found when it wont make a call just to exit out and restart (not a bid deal considering its free). I like though my recent calls have all these numbers in it I never dialed so I did one for the hell of it and was some company "P
Guess it would be fun to use for prank calls if I was younger
But I do like the free callin in though I need to call the number given and hear what someone would hear if they call me.

All in all its FREE and it sorta works so thanks again!

Jajah is awesome! Just put in two other peoples' phone #s (say you're trying to hook your shy friend up with your girlfriend's sister or something) and make them hack the conversation out!

Hot and hilarious!

I have 384KB DSL and although I don't use it much, Skype seems to work quite well. Not sure about this one, but free is good.

Jajah doesn't seem to want to make international calls to most countries without cost.
There are 8 free countries?

I gotta admit...these dialback systems are good for prank-calling two people who wouldn't normally call each other.

But it seems buggy to some, no matter what you use
