Thanks ww4397. I am glad to hear that someone was able to get in on this deal. The good news is I got my lava lamp deal a couple of days ago. I put the lamp in my sons room but I wish I had it here at work, it is so cool looking.
Anyway, this is what I wrote to msn, enjoy :disgust:
Hello,
My name is John XXXXXXX and I signed up 10 days ago under the "Sign up now and get Microsoft® Plus! for Windows® XP FREE!" promotion. I have not received either the msn explorer cd or the Plus for XP cd yet. I called your customer service department today at 12:55 EST (1 800 373-3676) and spoke with Helena. After speaking with a supervisor on this situation, Helena proceeded to explain to me that I would not receive the Plus cd until I have paid for my second month of service. Below you will find the details of the offer which can also be viewed at
http://resourcecenter.msn.com/access/plans/plus.asp.
Details of Microsoft Plus! For Windows XP MSN Internet Access dial-up plan offer:
Only one free copy of Microsoft® Plus! for Windows® XP per household. Please allow 3-4 weeks for delivery of Microsoft Plus! for Windows XP. MSN dial-up Internet Access is for users of Windows 95 or later operating systems only. Customer must additionally subscribe to MSN Internet Access in accordance with its Subscription Agreement to access the service. Offer is only available to new MSN Internet Access members in the 50 United States, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. A major credit card is required. After the trial period, the then-current price for the MSN Standard Dial-up Unlimited Access Plan will be automatically charged to your credit card until account is cancelled or customer has selected an alternative plan. MSN is available only for personal non-commercial use. Additional telephone and/or long distance toll charges may apply. It is the customer's responsibility to check with their phone company to determine if additional phone charges may apply. Local market network activity and capacity may affect access availability. Offer may not be combined with any other Microsoft offers or rebates. Promotion expires January 31, 2002.
No where in these details does it say that you must first pay for your second month of access to receive this promotion. It merely says you have to wait 4 to 6 weeks. It is my understanding that this promotion is to get me to try msn internet access and receive a complimentary cd of Plus for XP. If I like the service, I keep it and begin paying after my first free month is done. If I do not I am allowed to cancel within that first month and not be billed. Apparently according to Helena, the software is something that would force me to stay with msn. I then asked to speak with Helena?s supervisor and she said that the supervisor was their to answer questions but was not available at all to get on the phone.
I am extremely disappointed with this service and at this point would not recommend msn internet access to anyone.
Still eagerly awaiting the Plus for Xp cd,
John XXXXXXXX
Now I just have to remember to cancel the service
