Bluelight.com ISP actually uses MSN network for access, and is less than $10/month for
basically the same service as MSN.
MSN does not provide NNTP usenet news service.

Just imagine my surprise when UPS pulled up to my door at 9:30 am. I was thinking, now what did I order? Well, a copy of Plus was OVERNIGHTED to my door. Man, I just signed up for this deal 1-2 days ago. Crazy.

Looks like a sealed, retail version of Plus for XP. Now I just gotta get XP!

Are you guys sure that we can cancel MSN at anytime within the first month and not get charged? I'll cancel right now if that's the case.

Don't bother with this guys. XP Plus Pack really sucks. The games are all castrated and you have to pay extra to get them fully functional. The 4 themes are just the original themes XP come with, but with a different desktop wallpaper. The cd label software sucks. The rest of the software is useless. No one cares about WMA, mp3 is standard and always will be.

If you want to enhance your XP check out TweakXP. That is the best site I've found for XP enhancements.

Luckily for me I downloaded XP Plus from KaZaA and didn't have to go through any trouble to get it. I installed it, evaluated it, and uninstalled it. It's not worth installing, I was very disappointed.

if you really like screen savers, cheesy games and backgrounds that are cool looking go for it

if you don't care about the fish screen saver, which is the best part stay away.

Even MP3 is developing its new standard, so there is no always, especially in digital world.

yes mp3 Pro has been out for some time now yet I have never seen a single mp3 pro song. I also can't downlad wma files either, not to mention wma incorporates copyright protection. what advantage is there to switching?

I still urge people not to waste their time with this Plus Pack. It really does suck.

Has anyone actually received the xp plus disc from this offer yet before the free month was up? It has been 10 days for me and I have not received a single thing yet. Not even the cheasy msn software. I just got off the phone with msn and they told me that they do not send out xp plus for 4-6 weeks because you have to pay for your second month first. I explained to her that this was not in the details of the offer. That it does not say anywhere that you have to keep this to get the free disc but she insisted. I then asked her to speak with a supervisor and she explained they are only available to answer their questions and could not come on the phone. I am filing a complaint about this but I would really like to know if this has worked out for anyone.

Thanks:|

Yes. I just called home and found that I received a package today containing both the Plus! and MSN software. I ordered last week.

Thanks for the deal!

Thanks ww4397. I am glad to hear that someone was able to get in on this deal. The good news is I got my lava lamp deal a couple of days ago. I put the lamp in my sons room but I wish I had it here at work, it is so cool looking.

Anyway, this is what I wrote to msn, enjoy :disgust:

Hello,

My name is John XXXXXXX and I signed up 10 days ago under the "Sign up now and get Microsoft® Plus! for Windows® XP FREE!" promotion. I have not received either the msn explorer cd or the Plus for XP cd yet. I called your customer service department today at 12:55 EST (1 800 373-3676) and spoke with Helena. After speaking with a supervisor on this situation, Helena proceeded to explain to me that I would not receive the Plus cd until I have paid for my second month of service. Below you will find the details of the offer which can also be viewed at http://resourcecenter.msn.com/access/plans/plus.asp.

Details of Microsoft Plus! For Windows XP MSN Internet Access dial-up plan offer:
Only one free copy of Microsoft® Plus! for Windows® XP per household. Please allow 3-4 weeks for delivery of Microsoft Plus! for Windows XP. MSN dial-up Internet Access is for users of Windows 95 or later operating systems only. Customer must additionally subscribe to MSN Internet Access in accordance with its Subscription Agreement to access the service. Offer is only available to new MSN Internet Access members in the 50 United States, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. A major credit card is required. After the trial period, the then-current price for the MSN Standard Dial-up Unlimited Access Plan will be automatically charged to your credit card until account is cancelled or customer has selected an alternative plan. MSN is available only for personal non-commercial use. Additional telephone and/or long distance toll charges may apply. It is the customer's responsibility to check with their phone company to determine if additional phone charges may apply. Local market network activity and capacity may affect access availability. Offer may not be combined with any other Microsoft offers or rebates. Promotion expires January 31, 2002.

No where in these details does it say that you must first pay for your second month of access to receive this promotion. It merely says you have to wait 4 to 6 weeks. It is my understanding that this promotion is to get me to try msn internet access and receive a complimentary cd of Plus for XP. If I like the service, I keep it and begin paying after my first free month is done. If I do not I am allowed to cancel within that first month and not be billed. Apparently according to Helena, the software is something that would force me to stay with msn. I then asked to speak with Helena?s supervisor and she said that the supervisor was their to answer questions but was not available at all to get on the phone.

I am extremely disappointed with this service and at this point would not recommend msn internet access to anyone.

Still eagerly awaiting the Plus for Xp cd,

John XXXXXXXX

Now I just have to remember to cancel the service

You are absolutely right, the lamp is really cool. I'm looking at mine (here on my desk) right now. When I first heard that it was not a "lava" lamp, but, rather, a "sparkle" lamp, I was disappointed. However, I am really amazed at the sparkle of the little "X's" and "P's" as they rise and fall on the thermal currents within the lamp fluid. I especially like watching when I first turn it on and "letters" begin their never ending cycles.

Hey everybody, congratulations on getting your kits. Last week or so, when I dropped by to check the thread again, I noticed--- nothing. It was gone, LOL. I guess it was becoming a brag&moan. It was fun though

Peace

I got my lamp yesterday, turned it on and it lit for about 3 seconds before the bulb burned out. F.Y.I...it takes a 25W appliance bulb (although I could only find 40W).

Are you using the 40W? Mine gets very hot with just the 25W. I would be concerned at 40W.

It's supposed to get hot, that's what creates the thermal vorticies in the oil that move the x's and p's around.

Yea it came around noon, I had a 333 sitting with a 56k modem, so I set that up just incase the cable goes down with all the trouble with Excite @ Home....Atleast they can,t say I didn,t try it..getting a pretty good connecttion too..
Oh and it had a full retail box of Plus with certifcate of Authenticity too...big box for what they sent..
Took exactly 10 days actaully less as I ordered after 5pm on the 20th..

Deal is still up on there website, also just felt my lamp with 25 bulb, very hot, better get that 40 out...

I realize that. My comment goes to the degree of heating. In other words, does the 40W bulb generate too much heat?

While this discussion may be hot, it isn't a deal. So I'll shut up now.

Signed up on 11/21 and got mine today too. UPS Next Day Air no less. Installed MSN Internet, tried it for a few hours and found nothing special as I had expected. Of course, I am using RoadRunner Cable Modem so it would be a tough comparison. Called and cancelled just now so I don't have to remind myself. I used Amex Private Payment so the card would have expired today anyway.

Thanks BU2John.

Damn, I missed the Lava Lamp post... :frown:

I have XP Pro from a conference I attended but haven't had a chance to install yet.
